Have you ever wanted to color your hair but your spouse didn't want you to?

Good Morning Everyone! About four years ago I put color on my hair for the first time. I had wanted to do this before then but my husband just got very upset at the thought of me putting color on my hair. At first whenever I mentioned it he would beg me not to color it (my hair was salt and pepper with more salt than pepper LOL). He said he loved it that way. I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I never did put any color on it. There were a few other times that the subject came up and he got really disturbed, I was sure then that I wouldn't change my color because I didn't want him mad and he acted like it would upset him greatly. So I just decided I would stay salt and pepper until I grew totally gray. One night about four years ago we were watching TV and a commercial came on about hair color. I didn't say anything, we just continued watching the commercial. Then out of the blue he looked at me and said "Do you really want to put color on your hair?" I told him "I have always wanted to be a blonde, I don't know why, I just have." He said "Well, if you really want to then go ahead and put color on it, I won't get mad at you." So about two weeks later I had it done. Bless his heart, he came home sick that night running a high fever. When we finally got his fever broke to where he was a little more at himself he looked at me and said "I like your hair." He was sick but he still complimented me. When he got to feeling better (it turned out that he had pneumonia!!) he said he really liked it and was glad I had changed the color. What about you ladies, if your spouse didn't want you to change the color of your hair how would you handle it? Just curiousity!! Shelia

I don't like dye my hair because I don't like medical treatment as I think it's harmful for the health. But my husband doesn't mind what my hair style looks like. Even if I had a very short hair when I was pregnant. He just shocked to see it but he didn't say he didn't like it:) I love China

That is very good!! My husband lets me wear my hair any style that I want, it was just the putting a different color that he had a problem with for a while. :)

I once went pink and my husband didn't want me too. I actually persuaded him to help me put the dye on, but it was disgusting and I had to walk round with pink hair that was in parts my normal colour mixed with pink. The pink had not taken all over my hair and it was a right disaster.

I change my hair color whenever I feel like it. Sometimes, I change it just a little bit. Like a shade lighter or darker. But there have been times, I have changed it from red to brunette. So really my hair is whatever color come out of the box. LOL The people in my life usually tell me if they like it or not. Some will make suggestions of what color I should do next.

Luckily, as long as I dye it red, my husband is all for it. If that weren't the case, I think I would still do it anyway whether or not my husband liked the idea. I am lucky to have a husband that can handle me because I will do as I please regardless of what he thinks.

Ha! Ha! Sometimes I wish I were that way to a degree. I have become much more outspoken over the last few years, though, and if I don't agree with my husband I will let him know. But I still try to keep peace. But I have gotten to the point where if he pushes my buttons hard enough I will bark at him LOL and he is still getting used to that. I guess being married for 24 years makes a difference. :) Thanks for responding!!

yes, my husband do not like me to change the color of my hair. I want to have a Blonde color too but he said no,no,. he doesn't want me to cut my hair short, he doesn't want me to have a hair color. Sometimes, I would miss the time when I am single where I can just do what I want. No body would tell me don't do this and that. Anyway, as to how would I handle it? I just follow what he wants even if I want a change.. I just don't if he doesn't like it.

You sound like me, you want to keep peace. I just can't stand to have any type of conflict with my husband, even if it means giving up something that I really want to do. :) Thanks for responding. :)

When I met my husband I was medium blonde, naturally. After two kids it was a darkblonde brownish kind of color. They say that most blondes' hair darkens with each child. My husband insisted I color my hair back to medium, lol. But now, with money being tight and the economy going nowhere good right now, he thinks we should save the money. Thing is, it's hard to match up the colors back to the natural hair once you have colored it. Especially now, after three kids, I have a couple grays in there....

I know what you mean about the high prices. For a while I was going to a hair stylist to let her put the color on for me, but I found that I can get the color I want in the Nice and Easy brand at the Dollar Store for only $3.00. I just buy that now and my mother puts it on for me. Even though my hair stylist only charged $25 (much cheaper than other places) I still go with the $3.00 instead to save money.

My husband has never really minded what I do to my hair. I don't know if he would even notice, lol. My mother has gotten very opinionated as she gets older though and she had never liked me to color my hair. My hair is normally red. It use to be a reddish blond but now its a darker red. I use to keep it highlighted but I haven't in awhile. My hair is very dry and frizzy so its probably better if I don't color it for a few months but I think it looks better when its blond.

I use to put highlights in my hair and Hubby never minded. Then I had a ghastly nightmare with coloring...the person coloring my hair first dyed it fire engine red, then swore that a brown would fix it (it made it the color of poo) then he decided to strip it. When he went to rinse the stripping out my hair was matted to my scalp and had the consistancy of oatmeal...did I mention that my hair was practically to my butt? I had to have my head just about shaved and I have never colored it since. I just let it go at it's natural color and leave it alone.
