Recently theres been a "spree" of missing items from where I work. The spree occurs every time a certain family comes in to pick up or drop off their computers to be worked on. They come in as a group of 5 or 6 people and it never fails that items go missing off the shelves. (Three times now)
It bothers me that people do this...bothers me immensely. I could never do it myself and I have a hard time understanding how someone can justify taking a mp3 player or a game or something that isn't theirs and not paying for it.
The girl i work with says they justify it by saying they "want it now and don't feel like paying for it so they steal it" But to me...even if i wanted it and took it i would feel so guilty I'd have to return it and own up to what i did. I feel guilty even now knowing it was taken when I was watching the store, I'm sure I'd feel even more bothered and guilty if I had done it myself.
Why not just SAVE for the extras you want rather than STEALING them.

I don't think that "they want it now" is not a justified reason at all! I think that people that steal have very low morals and ultimately are not very happy people. The reason I say this is because when you save and work hard to get something that you want, you tend to appreciate it more. Instead, these things because disposable to those that steal it because they will just steal another if something happens to it.
What makes matters worse, is because of stealing, it increases the cost of things in order to make up for losses. That is not fair to those that do work and save to get the things they want.
In the end...it is those that steal that live very sad lives.

I agree that wanting it now isnt a justifiable reason...at least not in my mind.
Not appreciating what you steal/appreciating what you work to own makes a lot of sense. It does increase our costs at work - we're just a small business and we have to increase our mark up to make ends meet when people steal things.
Thank you for responding.
