"I thought I was going to die!" "I freaked out!" And other extreme MyLot phrases

What type of phrases do you use to describe your emotions when posting on MyLot? Do you use extreme phrases? Sometimes when I post, I've been guilty of using extreme phrases like, "I freaked out!" or "It hurt so bad, I thought I would die!". These are just phrases to describe extreme emotion and often used for dramatic effect. I try to keep my extreme expressions to a minimum, cause I don't want to be seen as the Incredible Hulk, turning all green and rampaging towns and terrorizing villagers over some tiny irritation! Do you use such phrases? What do you think when you see someone else using them? Do you really take such phrases at face value or just assume the person is exaggerating for dramatic effect! When you hear someone say, "I freaked out!", do you really beieve that they did?

I do this all the time in my everyday life but not sure if I have ever done it on here! But yes in everyday life I use real extreme phrases. But I do not believe that people do what they say when I read it, well I hope that they do not anyway!

I was just wondering whether anyone on MyLot was taking that exaggeration seriously. I've had some pretty odd responses to some of my discussions. I think people are taking me literally. And, that's kind of silly. Sometimes people get way picky online over little details like a turn of phrase.

I don't think I do that very often, but I might, and just don't notice it. I don't take it seriously when I see that someone else has said it either. I think most people just do it for the dramatic effect. I know my little sister is always telling me she said something and mom or dad freaked out. I know that what she really means is that my mom gave her a dirty look and/or told her to stop and/or not to say things like that, etc. I think that's the way most people use those terms, too.

I use that "freaked out" phrase a lot. Doesn't mean anything, except strong emotions. Thanks for your response.

I do hit the edit button often when posting discussions, so perhaps they were first draft only!

For me those are exaggerated words. But it doesnt mean what you say. But I suggest that you modify the words you used. Many are not used to it. I dont use those words at all. Other people may misunderstood you for using that. Dont use that for dramatic effect. Sorry for the delayed response. I was just too busy these days.

Maybe I'm just an emotional or sentimental fool but I do believe when mylotters use such expressions... although I'm aware that just VERY FEW use them to lengthen their posts. Happy posting!

I think they are a way of expressing those which cannot be expressed in simple words. I think they are part of what we call "figure of speech". I would like to use them when I need to but I think the time hasn't come for me yet. I have not really "freaked out". When people say that, I know it doesn't mean they literally freaked out but they felt some strong emotions. If they have tried to make a dramatic effect, I think it is only right to give them the feeling what they had hope for the reader to feel. It's fine with me. I think it has to be an art of speaking, most effectively used in poetry but also applicable in prose.

Good discussion. I go through phases where I use extreme phrases like that. It usually occurs to me eventually and I try to be aware of doing it. I have a friend who is really bugged by people using extreme phrases in talking about everyday things. She always says something about it, like "freaked out? Really?". Honestly, it is something that annoys most people about her.

beautyqueen26 yes at times I have used a little exaggeration but kept it to a minimum. when I see these I tend to use a little salt on them and do not take them at face value until I have read the whole discussion firsst. sometimes if I freaked out really fits the situation of course I will believe it. for example if a woman's husband all of a sudden tells her he is leaving and has never given her any reason to think that, yes I can see her freaking out. lol lol
