I play the guitar as well. But I can't read notes so well so I am searching the web for tabs. Is there anyone else who learns to play songs with tabs?

Yeah, I can. Go to the website called Ultimate Guitar for well written ones. I can read tabs with ease, but reading sheet music is like work for me, lol. Years ago I could read sheet music, but now I have to go at a slower pace until I'm used to it again.

I am the opposite of you. I can read notes, but I cannot read tabs. It seems easy to me to find free tabs online, but harder to find free note arrangements for the guitar, so you'll probably be able to find a lot just searching around.

As far as the guitar tabs and notation go I believe you need both. Unlike the piano, the guitar has the same notes on the same octaves on many different positions. I guess if you insist you can stick to notation only. However it adds a dimension to your expression when you add the tabs for what you are playing; an A on a 2nd fret G string does not quite sound like an A on a 5th fret D string. One sounds a bit brighter, the other feels a bit muted.

I can only read tabs. Sheet music is way to complicated. I have to literally write the letters of the notes when I'm playing the keyboard. If you are looking for tabs, try the website Ultimate-guitar. They have a full directory of something that will interest you.

I think the reason sheet music is so much easier for me is that I do not think of the notes as having names. I read three different clefs so it's hard to think of them by name. I just know which note corresponds to which locations on the guitar by looking at it, and don't even waste time thinking about the letters. Yet, I tried and tried to learn tabs and could not pick it up.

I play the guitar, and while I was learning, I learned to read tabs. I never could learn to read notes. But now I don't use tabs anymore, I'm not even sure if I can still read them, I usually play by ear, its easier for me to do.

Thanks. I also think that playing by ear is easier and more fun.

I tried learning to read notes with minimal success, but then i started learning tabs and have figured out it is a lot easier.
