All our Farmer's Markets are open! Yeah! Visited the Natural/Organic one |
| |
| One by one, our Farmer's Markets have opened. Last Thursday, the natural and organic one opened. I don't normally get to go to that one, but we didn't have enough work, so they let us out early. I bought artizen bread-sweet potato bread, very moist. Carrot ginger orange marmelaide, mozorella cheese, smoked mozorella cheese, Italian herb and garlic cheese spread, 4 dozen free range eggs, grass fed beef (sorry my friends from India and vegans/vegetarians), honey crisp apples, and asparagus. So is/are your Farmer's Markets open? A few years ago, we had one, now we have at least 5. Do you buy anything? Does yours include crafts? (Some of ours do, some don't) What do you buy, or do you just look? What kinds of things can people buy? | | | | | |

| | Thank you very much for responding, it sounds wonderful! I love to hear about different, but similar things from around the world as well as from around my country. I have many friends from India who write responses and questions here. Take care and I hope to hear from you again. | | | |

| | So many things to look at, it must be really, really fun. We have one Farmer's market in a downtown merchant area, another in a church parking lot before a line of stores, one at an Air Port, one on the lawn of an Inn, so anywhere there is one, doesn't surprise me any more. But yours sounds huge! Ours are also on fixed days. I love that we can actually talk to the people who grew whatever stuff they're selling. Also the freshness, in America, some food from stores took a week or longer to get there, but what we buy at the market was picked or collected that morning. Thanks again for responding and take care. | | | |

| | There are smaller farmer's markets down here (I live in a southern state) year round. Each one sells a variety of stuff but the one I love is about an hour away and sells every fresh fruit and vegetable you can imagine, and some you can't. The first time we went to it, we got 4 bags of vegetables and fruits and it was $8.00 and something. We about had a fit we were so excited about the low prices! We are planning a trip to that area this weekend and I'm already making a list of what I want to buy at the market. I think they had some Amish homemade noodles and cakes there, which is not something we typically have the opportunity to buy. I might try one of those. We will also spend alot of time looking. | | Aren't Farmer's Markets fun? Ours tend to not be less expensive than stores very often, but sometimes they have something on sale. Our laws and taxes, even for farmets don't make anything cheap. | | | |

| | I love those kinds of eggs. I used to get them up in Kearney Mo. when my friends sister lived there. They had their own chickens. There are no Farmers Markets anywhere near me. There is on anoy 12 miles away but they are only open Saturday and Sunday and I am seldom off those days. Grass feed beef is good too; it jsut seems alot leaner than corn fed. Take care | | | | | | |

| | Only 12 miles away? I live 25 miles from everything, so 12 miles sounds great to me. It's rough when you work the days they run. I work weekends, too. My work days seem to be getting shorter and I may be able to go to one before work and use a picnic cooler with freezer packs to keep everything cool before I come home. Even then, there would only be some stuff I would trust to not get too warm before I came out of work, but it would depend on the temps of the day. I was only able to go to the Thursday one because they let us out of work early due to lack of work last Thursday, normally I work 12 to 5 and the market runs 2 to 6 so by the time I would get to it, they would be packing up. But they let me out at 4 last time, so that was great. Yes, I like grass fed beef, tastes more like what I was brought up with. Nowaday, who knows what's in everything. Thanks for responding. | | | |

| | Yes, I find some stores, if I don't eat the food that day, the next, it's spoiled. Sometimes I have to pick through spoiled food to find the good food. There is one store that consistantly has food that is only good for one or two days. I can't be buying fresh produce every other day. Much of our produce is trucked from Mexico and California or West Coast ports all the way to the Eastern US. That can take a week. Then it goes in the back of the store. Then an employee must come in and sort through and pick dead leaves off, etc. So over a week before it's even on the shelf and then I think some places keep it another week there. When you go and come back, let me know what it's like at your Farmers' Market. Some day I'd like to do a combination wild food and Farmers' Market tour of the world. It's a dream and it would take lots of money, buy I would like to eat around the world (right now I'm too poor to pay for gas, so who knows what I'm thinking, but I can dream). Thanks for responding and take care. | | | |

| | I will do that if I ever get to it. I've swopped to a local greengrocer as much as possible as the fruit and veg lasts longer. I still get fruit and veg from supermarkets as they are opened longer hours. | | | |
