Fate or rubbish

If we broke something when we were young,my mum would get us to snap 2 matchsticks to make the 3 broken things and if she heard of 2 deaths locally or in the family she would always expect a third. Strangely, that did seem to happen. Maybe, as you say,we spot the bad things.

I think too much is read into that particular superstition.
Its likely that the underlying fear of the third piece of bad luck can force it to happen.

Also do people see things in context? 2 people die and then the lawnmower breaking is taken as the third bad luck to satiate the need for closure.

I'd class death as sadness, loss and/or tragedy.
The lawnmower of course is bad luck.

Trouble is if you start believing that everything is pre-decided and somehow has symmetry and rhythm then you can mess with your own mind too much hehe

funny you should say that because i alway say that too! When someone dies or has an accident or something like that I also think that there is going to be 3 just something that my parents and grandparents put in our brain and it has stuck funny how these things work I guess!
