Alright so here goes..my boyfriend and I have our 2 beautiful chilren. We both have both gotten jobs today. He said he was going to take his first paycheck and buy a psp (game console). We got into a huge fight about it. Also we are living with his sister and he doesnt feel obligated to pay bills or pay for his children. He's content with someone else doing it. HELP...how do I get through to him?

Oh that's tough. I know my husband is the same way, although he's gotten a bit better over the years. He still won't stop talking about getting a Wii. We got an X Box 360 for free and he always wants more games for it. The problem is we can barely afford our bills, and have basically been living off his family since we've been together. We are starting to finally be on our own, but the house we live in is owned by his parents, and we pay them rent. He is adimant about that.
But when we got our taxes, we had a shut off notice from the power company and I had to fight him in order to pay the bill.

I think just talking at a calm, peaceful time about your views and see about coming to a happy medium. Tell him if you pay X amount of bills, then you can spend X amount on whatever...

Hope that helps. Good Luck.

Sounds excally like what I have been going through. It is driving me crazy because he doesn't see it my way no matter how I explain it I am still wrong.

He is young yet, and guys like their toys.
In the end you need to do what's best for you and your child. Set specific bills that you will pay and he has to pay the rest, or you can get your own place. Tell him he's welcome to come, but he has to pay X amount of bills and if he doesn't, he's out. Also tell him he has to give you X amount from his check per week for your child's necessitites. And if he runs out of money before the week is through... DO NOT GIVE HIM YOURS. Perhaps a little tough love will teach him!
Good Luck.

I do control most of the money as much as I can, but I don't want it to have to be him seeing me as the bad guy. I just don't think he will ever grow up. It's a child raising children and it's makes me angry. You can make babies TAKE RESPONSIBLITY.

I am sorry to say this but if he is so immature that he puts a game before the needs of his children then you probably are not going to get through to him. His sister may be able to make him cough up some money to help with the bills but...........

Yeah I know. He will pay the pays but only because his sister will take the check and cash it herself and spend it as needed. It's sad.

happy I would tell him the way it is! Kids and bills come before toys. The kids needs should come before anything. Just because you live with his sister doesn't mean you don't have to pay bills. Tell him to grow up and be a dad. His needs are last. A psp is not a necessity! When you are down and out and not standing on your own two feet you do not go buy a psp. Why not reward him with some thing less expensive. For all his hard work. I do not think he should get praise for going to work because it is his job to provide for the family. You also could have him go to the pawn shop and get a used one for a low cost?

I don't even want the game consiles in the house because he plays them excesivlly. That's all he does and then prides himself on being a good daddy when I'm doing everything myself.
