Dobson accuses Obama of `distorting' Bible to fit his own worldview |

| Dobson accuses Obama of `distorting' Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology Another day, another example of Obama twisting everything the for his own gain. Is nothing sacred? Even distorting the bible! When is it going to be enough for people to understand that this man is the biggest bag of wind to run in a presidential race. His wind of change is like watching a tornado approach unable to stop it but only wait to see what damage it has caused. When will America waken up and see that enough is enough! COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - As Barack Obama broadens his outreach to evangelical voters, one of the movement's biggest names, James Dobson, accuses the likely Democratic presidential nominee of distorting the Bible and pushing a "fruitcake interpretation" of the Constitution. The criticism, to be aired Tuesday on Dobson's Focus on the Family radio program, comes shortly after an Obama aide suggested a meeting at the organization's headquarters here, said Tom Minnery, senior vice president for government and public policy at Focus on the Family. The conservative Christian group provided The Associated Press with an advance copy of the pre-taped radio segment, which runs 18 minutes and highlights excerpts of a speech Obama gave in June 2006 to the liberal Christian group Call to Renewal. Obama mentions Dobson in the speech. "Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools?" Obama said. "Would we go with James Dobson's or Al Sharpton's?" referring to the civil rights leader. Dobson took aim at examples Obama cited in asking which Biblical passages should guide public policy — chapters like Leviticus, which Obama said suggests slavery is OK and eating shellfish is an abomination, or Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, "a passage that is so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application." "Folks haven't been reading their Bibles," Obama said. Dobson and Minnery accused Obama of wrongly equating Old Testament texts and dietary codes that no longer apply to Jesus' teachings in the New Testament. "I think he's deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology," Dobson said. "... He is dragging biblical understanding through the gutter." http://news.yahoo.com/s/a... | | | | | |

| | OK. I'm confused. First: I thought there was to be a separation of church and state. So why would he say ANY Bible passages should guide policy? Secind: How is slavery being ok and eating shellfish being an abomination realative to ANYTHING we are facing as a nation today? What does eating SHELLFISH have to do with ANYTHING political anyway? It sounds like HE hasn't been reading HIS Bible!!! I would rather vote for Joe Dog than Obama!! | | | | | | |

| | I just wish that the religious leaders would stay out of politics and the politicans stay out of religion. This "non-separation" of church and state does nothing more than devide the country even further and take away from the real issues affecting our country. Haven't these religious leaders on both side caused enough harm during this campaign season? It seems as if they aren't satified with mentoring to their congregations and need to be in the spotlight. Boy that "15 minutes of fame" seems to have some long-lasting effects. Lloyd | | | | | | |

| | >>>Dobson accuses Obama of `distorting' Bible to fit his own worldview<<< So does Dobson and every other Christian. The bible is interpreted differently by everyone who reads it. Who the heck cares how Obama interprets it? It shouldn't matter. The bible should have no effect on our laws, anyway. I have more of an issue with a politician suggesting which bible passages should influence our public policy, then how he interprets biblical passages. | | | | | | |

| | I seriously think the evangelical leaders are out to take on America just like they did in the 80s and I even grew up listening to Dr. Dobson and really looked up to him about his family values but this is ridiculous. Its like their seriously stuck in a time warp or worse that they've made ANY change an abomination and I didn't think I would go there but if the enemy is out to fool anyone he's certainly gotten them fooled. Are they going to just let opportunities for serious evolution (oh wait, cross that out they do not even believe in it??) to take its natural course. | | | |

| | Annie, And of course when Rev. Dobson and his ministries have to pay back taxes, the second one on the list will be Jeremiah and the Trinity Church! It's okay when Wright totally libels the United States but let's not let ANYONE say a derrogatory remark about the messiah! | | | |

I think if anyone who is supposed to be a religious leader gets directly involved in the political process they should have to pay taxes, no matter which side they're on. Period! Annie

| | Some of these people, like Dobson, were quoted from interviews...not from preaching from the pulpit. Anyone is entitled to say what they want to in an interview...freedom of speech. Might ruffle some feathers, but we do have that right. It's when it is preached from the pulpit that they are in danger of losing their tax exempt status...that is what's a no-no. | | | |

| | Jesus did not say anything about them specifically, but the New Testament did. Romans 1:24-27 specifically 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward another: men with men working that which is unseemly... There are passages in the Old Testament as well. I am not posting this to start a side debate. Just pointing out that it IS addressed...just not by Jesus. | | | |

| | But shouldn't Christians be following the words of Christ and not the words of Paul? Furthermore, if it were that big of a deal to him, wouldn't He have addressed it? | | | |

I haen't picked up an American newspaper or newsmagazine or even watched TV since I ame back to Canada, a couple o months ago.

| | Obama wasn't distorting any part of the Bible. He was pointing out that if America was to truly follow every word of the Bible, then (using a couple of his examples) eating shellfish would be a crime, and we'd have no defense department. Even most Christians wouldn't go for that. I'd suggest finding the whole video and listening to what he has to say. | | | | | | |
