I seriously think the evangelical leaders are out to take on America just like they did in the 80s and I even grew up listening to Dr. Dobson and really looked up to him about his family values but this is ridiculous. Its like their seriously stuck in a time warp or worse that they've made ANY change an abomination and I didn't think I would go there but if the enemy is out to fool anyone he's certainly gotten them fooled. Are they going to just let opportunities for serious evolution (oh wait, cross that out they do not even believe in it??) to take its natural course.

Did I say Wright shouldn't also have to pay taxes? I think if anyone who is supposed to be a religious leader gets directly involved in the political process they should have to pay taxes, no matter which side they're on. Period!

Some of these people, like Dobson, were quoted from interviews...not from preaching from the pulpit. Anyone is entitled to say what they want to in an interview...freedom of speech. Might ruffle some feathers, but we do have that right. It's when it is preached from the pulpit that they are in danger of losing their tax exempt status...that is what's a no-no.

Are you serious?? Ok, so you do not condone abortion and thats great but do you seriously think that you get the ticket off the bandwagon because of that. This holier than thou mentality is only your despicable ego and thats the problem.

Jesus did not say anything about them specifically, but the New Testament did.

Romans 1:24-27 specifically 27

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward another: men with men working that which is unseemly...

There are passages in the Old Testament as well.

I am not posting this to start a side debate. Just pointing out that it IS addressed...just not by Jesus.

But shouldn't Christians be following the words of Christ and not the words of Paul? Furthermore, if it were that big of a deal to him, wouldn't He have addressed it?

Absolutely. Jesus didn't think it was a problem worth addressing, apparently. And Paul had other agendas. He believed the end of the world was at hand and advised his male followers not to marry. Had everyone followed that advise the world would have far fewer people!

When interpreting the scripture it is important to understand the times and what was going on then. The scripture was written for the people of the time. Also, much of the meaning is distorted in translation. So it is helpful to read several different translations to see how others translated the passages. Much of the controversial scriptures referred to by Dobson and others are taken from the King James version, which is not the best translation from the original texts. It is actually quite interesting to read a variety of translations.
