Have you ever had a leaking shower? |
| |
| We're in the process of pulling our shower out, because it has leaked so badly the whole wall was rotting behind the tiles! Not only that, it has been leaking into the back of my husband's half of the walk-in wardrobe, and a pile of computer manuals he'd stored there had been absorbing water for ages and was just a pile of black slime! I can't believe I hadn't noticed the problem had become so serious (I did know there was some leakage under the hob into the bathroom itself) - but there were so many clothes hanging in front, I suppose it kept the horrible mouldy smell contained, and I've been a bit lax regarding getting around to spring cleaning the last couple of years. The man who's coming to re-tile the shower for us laughed and said there's no such thing as a shower that doesn't leak! Has yours? | | | | | |

| | Hi, it's good that you have already discovered the problem and now repair it. Imagine how much water you are wasting if you hadn't discovered and the damage it would bring to your house. We don't have a shower. But in the house of my girlfriend, there is a leak from the bathroom in the second floor which trips down to a room on the ground floor. Fortunately we have recognized it and had it repaired. Imagine that not only water will trip down to the room! | | | | | | |

| | Your girlfriend's leak sounds horrible, richiem! It would be especially scary if water was dripping through ceilings and going near electrical wiring. I'm glad you've had it repaired now. | | | |

| | How awful, guybrush. That sounds like a dreadful problem and an expensive one at that. If your tiler said that it is a common problem, I must have been very lucky because I don't think I've ever had a leaky shower. | | | | | | |

| | You have been lucky, Piscesmoon! I sometimes wonder whether it's because our house is a No.4 - and apparently the Chinese think this is a very unlucky numbered house to live in, and is doomed for water and structural problems! | | | |

| | Touch wood, we have never had a leaking shower. Last year we did have a leaking toilet. Nothing nasty mind you, but the fresh water from the cistern kept overflowing on to the floor. My husband spent the day trying to sort it out and I spent the day mopping up the water. The next day he went out and bought a whole new cistern because it was easier than trying to fix something which probably had a worn out part. | | | | | | |

| | Oh Poor you having to have all that to deal with. I haven't a shower where I am now only a bath but when I was with my husband we had a shower and one day he was in it and I went downstairs and there was water dripping through the ceiling froma leak from the shower. I made him get out as water and electric don't mix and get told off for not turning the electric off at the mains! I told him next time I would leave in him there to fy LOL. Ellie :D | | | | | | |

| | That's really frightening about the water and electricity, ellie! Not to mention the fact the ceiling could collapse if enough water pooled in there. I once worked in a horrible old newspaper office which leaked, and when there was a big storm we'd have water literally pouring down the walls, over wiring, switches, etc - quite horrific - but everyone just kept working! | | | |

| | That's exactly what happened, caramello! The books acted like a wick, and had obviously been drawing all the water into them. By the time we discovered it, you could barely recognise they'd been books in the first place - they were so black and heavy with water. It didn't help that they were right in the back of a dark cupboard, too - a real breeding ground for mould and mildew. You were lucky you were renting - at least you could call your landlord to come and fix it - hahaha! | | | |

| | Well ours does not leak too much but when it does I usually get my hubby to take a look at it. Thank god for him because I have no clue with pipes and stuff. He is pretty good with that sort of thing and usually gets the job done fast. I love that he is handy like that. I have had a few problems now and then with some tapes in the house but thanks to my trusty handy man at home I just call him over and he gets down to it. Even if it is leaking from under he some how pulls it apart and reseals everything good as new. | | | | | | |

| | It's very nice to have a handy husband, bluemars! Mine is excellent too - but the older he gets, the more he prefers to call tradesmen in to do the jobs. | | | |

| | Yeah, mine did that a few years ago. I caught it early though and only had to replace the surround after I tore it out to fix the plumbing. Just the other day I had a pipe leaking that went into my water heater. Luckily again I caught it early and was able to fix it for $25. Ever since the first one leaked I find myself listening to the house as I walk through it at night when it is quiet. That is how I found the water heater leak. | | | | | | |

| | It's very good to have caught it early, vicneedscoffee. I think after something like that happens, you're always alert - and I'm sure I'll be paranoid whenever I see a drop of water on the floor now, wondering whether we have a leak again! | | | |
