What is up with people thinking they have a right to stare at my kid! Haven't they ever seen a baby, ok maybe he has spots but so what. Have the decency to at the very least ASK what he has and when we tell you ask if it is chicken pox. HE HAS MASTOCYTOSIS get over it. At least he is only 1 and can't really comprehend that he's different-which i'm sorry i don't think he is--just has some extra color. But with all these idiots gawking at him EVERYWHERE we go he's going to catch on...as his sister already has. She's 4 and is already telling people no Aggy doesn't have chickie pox it's mastocytody in her little girl banter. Very sad when a child can show more compassion then adults. When we first realized there was something about him and spots were appearing we figured it would be the children that would be rude and you know, it's not. ADULTS. Next time someone asks what does he have or better yet when all they do is stare I'm going to ask them what they are looking at and when they say the spots be like what spots I don't see any. "Are YOU ok" haha.
Man I really need to make him a shirt that says I'm not contagious unless you stare at me...may be then people will leave him alone.

It is pretty disturbing how adults can act about things! I like your t-shirt idea.
My son has a condition that's only noticeable if you see him completely naked and look hard...which no stranger has any right to do, so i personally don't have experience with people commenting but I still have a related story. A mom in my support group for this condition told of what happened right after her son's surgery. He still had all the stitches and was badly bruised and swollen down there. She was in a public restroom (at the children's hospital no less) changing his diaper when another woman came in. This woman actually stopped and stared until the mom asked if there was a problem. The woman then asked in a snotty voice "What happened to that poor baby!?" The mom decided to just matter of factly state that he just had corrective surgery. The woman told her something along the lines of "Well it looks more like he's been abused! Who do you think you are showing THAT off for everyone to see. You should be ashamed, you don't deserve to be a parent at all from the looks of it!" She then stormed out of the restroom. The mom was all kinds of upset. This surgery is painful and traumatic but completely necessary but that woman didn't even give here a chance to explain.

Sorry to see that this is happening to you. I must admit I have never heard of Mastocytosis. If it makes you feel any better my son has Asperger's and people will call him retarded or stupid. Which he isn't stupid but he doesn't understand abstract thinking and it confuses him. He also has trouble with humor. I have been where you are, the only difference is my son looks "normal" and some will just call him stupid including adults. I hope it gets better for you but unless Mastocytosis goes away (which I have no idea what it looks like) I don't think that it will really change too much.

Poor baby, people can be cruel, especially the adults. I know how cruel people can be. My nephew was born with a deformed hand, actually it looked like a crab claw. People would stare, like they were in a trance.
Instead of giving words of encouragment, they act like idiots.
I feel your anger, but remember that God, blessed you with a beautiful baby, and that is something to be thankful for.
Take care and stay blessed.
