While my hubby and I were split up I was at the club every weekend. I love to dance. I used to even used to crank up the tunes to do my house work. Now we are back together and he does NOT dance. I tried to teach him and he broke 2 of my toes.Plus he is a real homebody, can't stand crowds, and is totally convinced that married women going out to the clubs with out their man is just asking for trouble. I try to dance while I clean but since we moved to a subdivision the cops get called or one of the other 6 people living here starts to complain. So I haven't had a real chance to dance in 5 years and have put on about 80 lbs. I diet, and do the normal exercise 3 times a week (boring!!!) but have lost very little.
For some reason I can only lose weight on the dance floor.
I may need to tell a few people to kiss off and start dancing again before I turn into the blob.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?

WOW! You must have been dancing a whole lot to keep off 80lbs. Have you not changed any of your eating habits. What about those dance workout videos they look pretty neat.

I did I would be one of the first ones in the club and one of the last ones out at least 2 nights a week, and I danced nearly the whole time I was there. Plus dancing around the house everyday. As for the work out videos ... yeah I tried one and I have no idea what that lady was on but that was not dancing. I have recently started trying to learn belly dancing with show called "shimmy" and it is pretty fun. It still feels very different than real dancing. You know when you've been on the floor so long and danced so hard parts of your body hurts that you had forgotten you had but you don't care because you are having too much fun. That was me. I really miss it. I would hit hip hop clubs, salsa, there was an eighties club that was a lot of fun too. If there was music I was there and moving. I don't know if I did it all very well but I gave it 110%.

I was eating less then but have been eating only what is on my food pyramid. I looked it up when I decided that it was time to get up and do something about my weight.

My hubby needs no help with keeping in shape. He hits the weights religiously and is always on his bike. I ride with him but do not get the same results. I think you are right that it did help a lot with stress. I am one of those people who's mood can be greatly be affected by music ( there are a few songs the hubby keeps on cd in our roomblush), and when I was upset I did just dance my butt off till I either felt better or was too tired ti care anymore.
I have to admit to being a bit of a flake too when it comes to "traditional" exercise I get bored and end up losing interest.
Like I'll do a 20 mile bike ride on a pretty wooded trail but riding around the neighborhood I'm ready to go home after 4 miles.

I try to go swimming as often as I can but there is a 4 year old attached to me the whole time so I don't get as much exercise as I could. Though she does make a really cute little water weight. Lift and tickle is her favorite exerise.

That is too bad that you gain those lbs from not dancing.

I don't dance and is totally a home body but stress has really gotten to me. I lost weight just thinking (haha).

It is really a stressful time in my life and hectic too.

I say if that is what you enjoy, dance away.

Maybe instead of a club, invite your husband to join with others at a restaurant where there is music and band and dancing of course.
My parents attend those events and they have lost lots of weight dancing.

O.k. I'm totally jealous, I get stressed and gain weight. Even if I don't eat extra for some reason the weight sticks. Every one in my family (on Moms side)have some serious weight issues too. As for the hubby and dancing... I've learned to enjoy dancing alone. It's much more fun than the broken toes. LOL.
I told everyone last night that from now one when I'm cleaning I'm turning on my music and all t.v.s are off. If they don't like my music go outside to play.

good for you, you found something to do and still can dance at the same time.

Keep it up, a dance video is good too.

I began to really gain weight when several things happened. Firstly, my knees deteriorated to the extent that something wore out and I could no longer do stairs or inclines without much discomfort. I used to bushwalk so that was out. I couldn't run either so games and sport were out, dancing too. I've got myself dancing again but I go very carefully.

I also had a hernia that went undiagnosed for about 6 years. By the time I had the operation it was a major repair and I could do very little for 6 weeks. I basically ate, sat at the computer and slept in all that time. Going back to work my upper body developed and I was not happy. Also due to the inactivity and age my upper and lower abdominal muscles gave out. I've never had good recovery in my skin or muscles so I have two big sacks above and below my non existant waist.

Round about the same time I was ill and in pain with the hernia, my partner turned away from me. He was unwilling to sleep with me or give me any support or comfort. I was devasted and felt lonely and ugly and unloveable.

I seem to be obssessed with eating now that I've been trying to lose weight. I'm not losing at all, I'm gaining. I bought a very expensive treadmill and less than 6 months later I'm too heavy for it. I also found out that I would have to walk about 6 - 8 hours a day to lose any weight.

I'm trying to be relaxed about how I feel about myself and my appearance but then I eat more....I'm convinced my thinking is screwed up somehow and I have no idea how to tackle that.

myLot reputation of 92/100. freedomg (520)   ranked 268 out of 408 in dancing  2 months ago

First off you did not screw up. My mom has had to fight with her weight all of her life at one point she weighed 408 lbs. And much like you as soon as she had started to make real head way her knees went and now she's trying to lose enough weight to be able to handle the surgery she needs for a huge hernia, but she can't walk across a room let alone work out. She comes to my house so she can go swimming. We help her in and out but other than that she's good. the water keeps the pressure off her knees and hernia. She says it feels great and she has lost 15 lbs just doing this for 3 days every two weeks and eating better. I send her $ for fresh food (the cheap stuff will kill you). You'll be o.k. as soon as you realize that you are worth fighting for.
P.S. your partner never deserved you if they bailed at the first sign of trouble, and love will find you as soon as you are open to it again. Just give it time.

How lovely you are to be so kind. I actually feel as though the "penny has dropped" and I'm in the right place now. I lost 2.5kg last week. I've been ill with a cold this week and not able to do much so I will be interested to see if I've still lost when I weigh myself on Monday.

As for love...I don't know how to accept it into my life now that I'm not the person I used to be. I can't handle that relationships must be about the physical/sexual side of things. For me, intimacy would be to have someone to wash my back, cut my toenails and moisturise my poor dried out skin. I don't think I will find true love anytime soon. But that's ok. I have my animals and they love me...?lol

P.S. If you do find a man that does toe nails, back washing, and lotion...find out if he has a brother around my age (31 but don't tell). Girl all he would need to add would be windows and dishes and you've got the perfect man! I've been married 17 years and the only time my hubby ever does any of that is if he wants something or broke something. lol
