"Mom, what kind of animal am I eating?"

This is the question that my 8 year old son just asked me while he was sitting on the couch by me watching a movie and munching on some diced ham. Not, where does ham come from. "Mom, what kind of animal am I eating?" So, we just got done going through the list of what foods come from a pig and a cow. Chicken is pretty obvious, so we did not go through that one. I think it is funny because I know some kids get grossed out when they realize that they are eating an animal, but he thinks it is cool. Does it ever gross you out when you are eating meat to think about the animal that you are eating?

Yes! This is the reason why I almost always want to eat veggies, and fruits! I admire your bright little son! Imagine how a young boy could ever think asking intelligent questions like that! I'm sure he'd go places!

I know a few vegetarians who love the taste of meat, but cannot stand to eat it because it used to have a face.

For the most part nope! There are some animals that i just can't make myself eat but if it is "normal" animals it doesn't bother me. My daughter on the other hand realized that ham came from a pig when she was about four or five years old and to this day (she's 26)refuses to eat pork!

I was telling him about how when I was a kid I went to a few hog roasts with my family and how they cook the whole pig and he about started drooling.

Not my daughter, when she was small she would cry every time she smelled bacon or ham cooking!

Sure does! That's why I rarely eat beef or anything made from it. I had meatloaf the other day and afterwards remembered that the recipe uses beef from cows. Sort of made me feel sick. I like cows! I don't like chickens, but I don't mind eating chicken. It's a love/hate relationship!

hehe..that is too cute. My kids are the same. I have a 3, 5, 7, and 9 year olds. They all ask, what animal did this come from? Or this is bacon, that's a pig right? Then theu will joke about it while they are eating, or worse, they make the call of the animal:) I think its cute, their way of learning. It doesn't bother me at all. That's what the critters were put on the earth for, so might as well enjoy them:)

it really makes me feel sick if i think about it while I'm eating so i try to block it out cos i love meat, i`ve been waiting for it to kick in with my 4 year old but it hasn't yet in fact she doesn't seem bothered that it was a animal to the point that she wanted to catch the fish out of her grandads pond and eat them! i wouldn`t mind but she love`s the fish she love`s feeding them and is very loving and gentle with animals so i was very surprised when she started asking if she could eat them! lol
