Which Is the Better Baldwin Brother? email this discussion to a friend?

I'm afraid we have another Baldwin brother threatening to leave the country if the candidate of his choice fails to win the White House! This time it's Alec's far less successful brother Stephen who told Laura Ingraham who was filling in for Bill O'Reilly that if Obama is elected he'll leave the country.

http://www.observer.com/2...

I guess he was actually making fun of brother Alec's threat to leave if Bush were elected in 2000 but, let's be honest - Alec said he'd leave if Bush were ELECTED and he wasn't, he was SELECTED - so he really didn't go back on his promise, did he? Stephen was complaining about all the celebrities who are supporting Obama and called it "the most stupidest thing", proving his grammar is as bad as his politics!

Isn't it interesting that a right-wing pundit would have an actor on as her guest to make her point about celebrity endorsements and that he would then make an endorsement of his own? I mean, if he wants to make the point that nobody is interested in what Hollywood says when it comes to politics shouldn't he have kept his own opinion to himself?

(Note: We may not "care" what celebrities think but we care LESS about what Stephen Baldwin thinks than we do about what actual stars think...)

It is interesting that Americans think what celebrities think is not important. The beautiful image that America enjoyed all over the world (before Dubya came to power)was created by Hollywood. Women all over the world love American men and men all over the world love American women because the movies from Hollywood portrayed Americans in a positive way. American soldiers were loved all over the world because, in Hollywood movies sold to millions of people across the world, the American soldier always wins and he is the guy or girl who always fights fair. Well, maybe the stars are hated because the positive image they have sold to the world about America is making people run here to find the 'Heaven' they see in the movies.

People like me don't value celebrities political affiliations because most celebrities are poorly educated and have never worked a real job. A large number of them are also drug addicts including at least one of the Baldwin brothers (Danny if I remember correctly). Naturally there are exceptions, but I can't see how acting in a movie makes an actor's opinions more important than anyone elses.

Did you mean to say that you don't see why their opinions should matter 'as' anyone else's? Nobody said their opinions should matter 'more than anyone else's', if I remember correctly.

Celebrities who make comments like that are pathetic. Barbara Streisand, Rosie O'Donnell, and Alec Baldwin all made those stupid claims about how they would leave the country and not one of them had the guts to do it. You can go and argue your little semantics about that election, but Bush won it fair and square based on the rules as written in the constitution. Even if you refuse to believe Bush was ELECTED in 2000, he was clearly ELECTED in 2004 so they should have left then if not in 2000. Did their promises have an expiration date?

Stephen Baldwin is largely the joke of the Baldwin family. Frankly, without watching the show I can't even assume he was serious. It sounds like something he'd say as a joke to mock Alec. Either way, it has no more credibility than the same remarks in the past.

Taskr36, I'd like respond to both of your replies here, this one and the one I copied below.

"People like me don't value celebrities political affiliations because most celebrities are poorly educated and have never worked a real job. A large number of them are also drug addicts including at least one of the Baldwin brothers (Danny if I remember correctly). Regarding your first sentence above, I agree that with celebrities or anyone else if they're not informed and have no clear idea of what the rest of us go through their opinions aren't all that valuable. I also agree that their opinions aren't anymore important than anyone else's but I really don't mind that they voice their opinions. I've said before that they have more of a platform from which to spout their opinions than the average person because WE gave it to them. Obviously, we didn't "all" give every star their "star power" but if they're on TV or in hit movies and they're invited to appear on talk or news shows or if they're asked to appear in a political ad it's because a large number of people have made them popular. Some of us are able to completely separate their onscreen persona from their political views and others are not. Myself, if I like an actor or musician's work that won't change no matter what their political views are but if someone chooses to boycott someone's work because of their activism, all the power to them. I will say that I've never traveled to Iraq or any other foreign country and I didn't get to see the effects of Hurricane Katrina firsthand so when someone tells of his or her personal experiences I'll listen to what they have to say because I wasn't there myself. In that way celebrities do have something to contribute but I also know they should be taken with a grain of salt because even when two U.S. Senators visit the same war zone they sometimes come home with two totally different versions of what they witnessed.

You're right, there have been celebrities that have made some pretty stupid comments and "promises" and I feel that way whether they're on the left or on the right of the political aisle. I suppose if they choose to use the platform given to them by their fans to make fools of themselves that's also their right. As for the Baldwin brothers in particular, we now have two of them on record as threatening to leave the country based on who is elected President and one already went back on his word and I'm sure the other one will follow; one is on the left and the other is on the right but in my opinion neither of them have done much career-wise for awhile now and neither of them have any credibility politically.

Well do we actually care what celebrities think? I don't. Yet they all seem to think we do care and spout their political beliefs all over the place. I just ignore them.

As for the comment I will leave the country if their person is not elected. I have heard this from celebrities on both sides in the past three or four elections. Celebrities can say that all they want. They probly own houses all over the world so it is easy for htem to just pick up and go. How much time do they spend here in America anyway? The real question is: Do we care if they leave? I don't, I say let them go.

Great point, when they say they're going to leave the country they actually do leave so I guess they're not really making empty threats. They just come back and they certainly don't give up their citizenship here. I must say, someone thinks we, or some of us at least, do care since they keep getting invited on news and talk shows to talk about politics. Also, I do respect those celebrities who have put their money and their bodies where their mouths are in their activism in various causes. That's not always a bad thing at all because they can raise awareness to problems many of us don't know even exist.

I much prefer when actors and celebrities stay out of politics altogether. Their endorsements are not warranted, in my opinion, even if that politician stands for a belief system that is popular in the entertainment industry. A good example of that would be Barbra Streisand who was fully endorsing Hillary Clinton, but not is endorsing Obama.

I'm not really much of a fan of any of the Baldwin brothers, but if I had to pick one, it would have to be Alec. He is probably one of the smartest of his brood and the most successful. As for Stephen Baldwin, I know he has become a born-again Christian, so perhaps this is why he is sto opposed to anyone he considers a liberal being voted into the White House.

My question to him though would have to be, "Where would you go to live that you think is better, if not here?". Doesn't sound very American to me.

"Which is the better Baldwin brother?"

Annie...!!! You made a major error. You can't use better and Baldwin in the same sentence, it doesn't fit ever. rasp In order to make the question progamerly correct, this is what should have been done: "Which Baldwin is the least craptacular?" There, fixed.

If you couldn't tell I don't care about the Balding brothers. Oops, I got the name wrong. Meh. Alec said he'd leave, he didn't leave, no surprise; he's a Baldlose, this shouldn't be suprising. And on the other hand, Stephen said something grammatically incorrect? Yes I see it... it deserves a nice*/facepalm*. No surprise here either. Stephen is also in violation of the progamerly correct mechanics of English. The correct way to write "the most stupidest thing" is "everybody fails".

Anyways, so what's being said about this Baldlose brother is that people care even less about him than the other celebrities. Translated to my world, that's an incredibly low scale. Annie, maybe you know. What's the rank below "fail"? lol

What, you're criticizing one of the stars of Celebrity Apprentice? (Honest, I didn't know this until I read it online last night...lol) "Craptacular" - what a great word, I'll definitely have to remember that and use it, with full credit to you of course. What IS below "fail"?

Have you seen Daniel on Celebrity Fit Club? Now there's a joke of a Baldwin brother. I happen to like Stephen much better than Alec. And at least I've never heard of him calling one of his children a pig.

myLot reputation of 69/100. anniepa (5487)   ranked 213 out of 3,379 in politics  2 months ago

I'm afraid I've never had the pleasure of watching the Celebrity Fit Club. It just occurred to me that the fact we have so many "celebrity" reality shows is a good indication we have too many lower than D-List celebrities who can't find any real work.

Good point about Stephen not calling one of his children a pig. Does he have any children? There is simply MUCH too much I've yet to learn about Stephen Baldwin...lol
