Any Suggestions For My Fine, Flyaway Hair? | | My hair is long and platinum blonde. All my life, it's been blonde, but fine and flyaway... so much so that I have to use a hairspray to keep it from ending up like a vanilla candy floss stuck on my head! I've tried oils, wax, and a finishing spray, but it either ends up too lank, or greasy, and I just can't find a happy medium. People always tell me I have lovely hair... ok, the colour is good... even though I'm greying, it doesn't look like it! But, I have no control over it, without using a hair spray, which tends to matt it up underneath anyway. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what make and what type of product might help keep my hair lifted, give it body and eliminate the need for a spray? The closest I've got so far is one that Gabs gave me a little of when I was up there. It's not bad, but still, I have problems with the bottom of it. It's a lot longer now, but I've posted a pic where you can see my problem!

Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | Lol... you're getting me confused with another friend here, on Mylot. Pye has dark hair, my friend. Hi anyway! If your sister has the same problem, it might pay to keep a watch on this discussion, my friend. The salon told me that my hair was perfectly healthy, but it's so difficult to manage, that I need to find a product which will save me using hair spray to hold it in place. I hate hairspray, but constantly have to use it. With regards your hair, can you not get straighteners to keep the kink from coming back? Brightest Blessings, my friend, and thank you for your contribution.

| dasiejanie (53) | 4 months ago | hi your hair looks pretty, butI if its to fine and straight I say long layers, maybe like a long shag, if will make your hair lighter. And give it more bounce. Maybe angle it some around the face kinda like wispy. It would be not a big change but just enough.:) Dj

Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | Yes, Daisiejane... I've been thinking about having it layer cut, as it will lift it some, and appear to have more body and bounce, as you say. Thank you for your contribution, my friend, and Brightest Blessings.

If it's too long and stringy... maybe you're only viable option is to wear it shorter. Maybe if it's shorter it will have more body. I'm a guy... I get my hair cut at Fantastic Sam's. I'm just happy I don't have a bald spot.

| | 3. petiksmode (1188) | 4 months ago | there are some ways that i can suggest.. cheapest: stay away from pony tails too much..esp twriling your hair twice and putting tail creating your hair to summed upward. cheaper: there are shampoo that really tame fly away hair..it really helps to use conditioner after costly: go to salon and have treatments like hot oil or spa or wax..this really helps.. i have also long hair and becoz i am really busy to go to salon i settle for number 1 and 2 suggestions. but whenver possible i really got to salon to get my hair done..

GardenGerty (14135) | 4 months ago | Reading this part I will say that I have heard to use a synthetic or satin pillow slip. When my sister became bed ridden and restless a dear friend machine embroidered several silky pillow cases and it did help it not tangle so much.

Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | That's a good idea Gerty as silk or satin is not as absorbent as cotton mixes. Thank you. xx

Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | Wow... they're some great, natural ideas. I normally trim it up myself but have decided on layers, I think. that will put the body and bounce back in it... give it some life. I agree with your statement about chemicals... they none of them do your hair any good, I'm sure. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution.

| | | | 5. ellie26 (1849) | 4 months ago | I have the same hair problem as you. There are a few things I did almost everyday to keep my hair look fuller and lifted: 1. I have my hair permed (body permed) to give it a little 'lifting'. 2. I shampooed my hair everyday. The kind of shampoo I used is for fine and limp hair which can be used everyday. 3. After each shampoo, I make sure I towel dry my hair completely and then blow dry it a little. It works for my hair as it look fuller.
| |
| |
|
|
Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | I'm a little wary about having a body perm, because perms tend to dry my hair out even more. I also try not to use a hairdryer unless I'm really short of time, because the heat dries my hair out. Sorry, I'm not pulling your suggestions apart, but I have tried some of those things before, and still it doesn't work. My hair seems to light and flyaway to use too many chemicals on... hence the problem with the hairspray. I normally just towel dry, then hand scrunch my hair, before leaving it to dry naturally. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your suggestions., my friend. xx

Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | Awwwww, that's so sweet of you to say so, and I'd love to be without the hairspray, but especially when I've just washed my hair... I NEED it! Thank you for your contribution and Brightest Blessings.

| | | | 7. bonbon664 (2165) | 4 months ago | I've got the same problem. I found that when I got it cut shorter, it looks fuller, and looks like I have more hair. The only thing that I use that makes it look a little fuller is some mousse.

|
Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | I have tried a couple of mousses but have yet to find one that moistens my hair. I need something to keep it in check... make it heavier, if you get my drift. There is a mobile hairdresser in the village, whom I have known, through her parents, since she was a child. Her charges are very reasonable, and I've been thinking about asking her to layer my hair, in order to rid myself of any split ends and to give my hair more body and bounce. Thank you for your suggestions and Brightest Blessings.

Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | I'm sorry, my friend. Those photos used to be normal size but I don't know what happened. Whenever I upload them to Mylot, they seem to come out really small... perhaps they're trying to tell me something? Certainly, if I send them in my e-mails, they come out huge!!! Just another thing to add to the Mylot glitch list, I guess. I'm trying a "renewal spray" at the moment, which Gabs gave me a little of. It's not too bad, but there's still room for improvement. I can't seem to find the right thing for my hair. Our hairdresser friend recommended a site to me once, but I seem to have mislaid it. She also suggested that perhaps linseed oil might help, I believe. I was hoping she'd be in here, but no show yet. In the meantime, I thought somebody else might have found the perfect product, or natural remedy. Brightest Blessings, my friend, and thank you for your suggestions. I shall be trying different methods. x

| | | | 9. beautyqueen26 (7636) | 4 months ago | Here's a little tip that works for me. My hair is very thick, but this also works for gals with fine hair. If you've got long hair, shoulder length, pull up the hair into a big pony tail on the very top of your head. Not at the back or nape of your head, but on the crown top. Fasten with a scrunchy or covered elastic. Do this right after washing your hair. Or, blow dry and put up on top of your head. You can wear your hair like this around the house until it's dry or go to sleep with your hair up. In the morning when your hair is dry, take out the pony tail, comb through and you'll have extra body to your roots with no chemicals. The puffed effect lasts a long time! To restore the effect, bend at the waist, comb hair forward toward the ground, spray a light mist of hair spray on back of hair. Brush though. Puff returns! I use this trick all the time, and get gorgeous model like hair. And usually no kind of product works on my hair to keep it lifted, cause it's so heavy. This does! Best of luck!

Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | This is one of the things I do all the time, my friend. I wash, condition, towel dry and scrunch my hair up with my fingers, then leave it to dry naturally. Then, whilst I'm doing my make up and getting dressed, I put my hair on the top of my head with a very loose band and curl the ends up with bendy curlers. Then, everything else done, I let it down and brush it into place before spraying both underneath and on top. The spray seems to dry it out though, and one of the responses here, told me that the curling can damage my hair more, as I put it up in the same way at night. So, I'm trying only to put it up for a short while, when I'm about to go out. I'm trying a renewal spray at the moment, which is a kind of leave-in conditioner, and so far, it's not too bad, but I need to leave off the spray and find the "perfect" product for my own hair, so that I can bring it back to good condition. I'm even contemplating asking the local mobile hairdresser to layer my hair without making it any shorter. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your helpful suggestions. x

beautyqueen26 (7636) | 3 months ago | My daughter has very dry curly hair and does not like for her hair to be combed. So I have to make sure that it never tangles. It's very difficult to use regular shampoo on her hair as it makes her hair mat, snarl and tangle. Currently I'm using a simple conditioner from Suave. But I've heard that Garnier Fructis is better for dry and curly hair to keep it hydrated. Thanks for sharing your beauty and hair tips with me. I'm always interested in finding out how other women do their daily beauty routine! Best of luck on your search for the perfect hair product. I will keep my eyes open for any products that I might find for fine and wispy/dry hair and post them to my beauty blog. Thanks again. Have a beautiful day!

| | | | | 10. conkeller (6) | 4 months ago | Hey Darkwing, My girls use electric hair straighteners on their hair. One daughter has thin, fine flyaway curls and the other has thick can-sometimes-look-almost-bushy kind of hair. When they use the straighteners you would not think they had a curl on their head at all. They can wash, dry, and straighten in the evening and do a touch-up straighten in the morning and they are good to go. They don't use any special shampoos or conditioners.
| |
| |
|
|
Darkwing (5804) | 4 months ago | I don't really need straighteners, my friend. It's the dryness and flyaway element of my hair which is bothering me. I need to eliminate the need for hair spray, which although it brushes out, leaves my hair quite dry and without shine. It needs nourishment, rather than styling. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution.
