Is this world going crazy?

Every day that I watch television, surf the internet, or look at a magazine I get upset. Yes, the economy is bad and we are at war, but there is something else that upsets me almost just as much. It seems that losing weight is so important that to be accepted and not be in the category of fat, you have to be a toothpick. I read somewhere that a size 10 is full figured. This is crazy!! When studies show that most people in America are becoming overweight, are they including people who are over size 10? On top of that, a lot of celebrities are losing weight and losing their curves. Not that I'm concerned with these people, but ordinary women are doing the same cause they see celebrities do it. Mariah Carey went from a size 7 to a size 2. She's still beautiful, but she lost her sexiness. I always thought that men (and women) love woment with boobs, booty and hips. Wasn't Beyonce voted the sexiest women alive at one point in time?
Am I just crazy or do you feel the same? I mean I would love to loose a few pounds to be healthier, but if I loose any of my "assets" I think I would gain weight just to get them back.

I agree with you that obsession with weight is a very disturbing trend, fafinette. I feel sorry for young girls who are under so much pressure when they see pictures in magazines. It's healthy for women to have some nice curves - we shouldn't look like boys! I have a few extra pounds too, but I have no wish to look like a skeleton and have all my bones poking out. Fresh air, a bit of normal exercise and good, fresh food should give us healthy bodies and happy minds - we shouldn't feel the need to look like toothpicks in order to feel good about ourselves.

I so agree with you! its a shame that women cant be women anymore unless they are size neg. And the sad thing is, i have noticed in the malls even that there are stores that say size 2 and under! YES!! SIZE 2!
Would i like to loose weight, yes, do i need to, yes, but i think it so sad that our children see all this skinnyness and think that its normal!

Yes! I have a daughter that is nine years old and she is skinny to me. Yet, because of all the things she sees, she thinks she needs to do situps. She even tries to exercise. Though it's a good thing to teach her to exercise to stay healthy, I hate that she's doing it at the age of nine. That's why I'm keeping my curves and telling her that it's more important to be healthy than to be a particular size.

I think we do have a huge problem with people being overweight. Depending on your height, a size can can be obese. If you're only 5 feet tall, a size 10 is pretty big. Even though I don't look it, I'm classified as obese - I'm 45 pounds overweight. Because of the way I carry my weight, it doesn't look horribly bad on me. It does affect my health though and I'm trying really hard to get back to a comfortable zone for me - and a size 10!
I don't think these super-skinny girls are attractive at all and a few years ago they were actually trying to "fatten them up a bit". There were a lot of campaigns to bring out what they have been doing to their bodies to stay so "thin" and it was frowned upon. It looks like that didn't last long.

I was really happy to see a full figured woman when America's Next Top Model. It also seemed that Tyra Banks was excited about it too. Thanks for your response.
