Intruder problems with feral cat colony

I feed and manage a feral cat colony at a big box store. I have been having problems with cats disappearing and food dishes being tossed over the fence. I have put up signs for the missing cats but no one has responded. This is a long and detailed problem which I will no go into here. In February, an employee whom I believe to have mental problems threatened to kill the entire colony. Management was notified. They counseled the employee. Still the problem is going on. Little by little a lot of the cats are missing. I think it is a person who is doing this. I need to get ideas on how to catch the person. It is illegal to harm the cats. I cannot go over there and stay 24/7. I am not getting much support from some of my so-called friends. I am getting desperate for answers before all the cats disappear. I love them so much and cannot understand why people are like this. It is causing me to be very distressed and cry a lot. I cannot put a camera there as it would cost too much. I cannot hire a Private Eye because that would cost too much. I want to save these cats. Please send me some suggestions.

If it's the employee, he's probably doing it just before or after work. Most people are lazy and I doubt he would come there in his off hours. Talk to management again and see what they say.Maybe they have a cam for security and you could view the tapes for the days a cat disappeared. I hate people who harm cats.

I am afraid that management might be in on it too. I hate to sound paranoid but I have good instincts and gut feelings. I think the employee may have been acting on management's direction to "get rid of the cats." I don't know if it is everyone there but certainly probably the top guy. I think the method this person or persons is/are using is probably poison. There are very few cats left and I am afraid if I say something, they may be harmed also. It is a terrible no-win situation because the law does not seem to care "because they are ferals." I would like to put somebody in jail for it but it is not easy. So sad for the kitties. I am heartbroken over it. I love all of them.

I just responded to your other more recent post about this. I assume that since you still seem to be having a problem, the suggestions made here have not helped at all?

If you work at a big box store, they should have security cameras around. Ask if you can check them - or ask security if they can check them since it appears someone is violating the law and might not JUST be bothering the cats. Then, if they can see who it is, or can see someone disturbing the cats, maybe that person can be identified and reported. Also, report it to the police, if it is illegal to harm them. They need to know - people who willingly harm animals usually end up being willing to harm humans, too. Although, it's possible they're catching them to take to the pound, also.
