Cats kneading on you |
|
Does your cat knead its paws on you all the time?It seems to me like cats are remembering their kitten days when they did this to their mothers to nurse but, maybe it is a sign of love from your cat or that it thinks it owns you, what do you think?

2. snowy22315 (5090) | 4 months ago | I think it is a sign of their kitten days. I've had cats do that to me. My current cat is not a kneader though. He often sits by me but in terms of kneading, it never really happens. My other cats have been kneaders however. It is really cute when they do that but when they stick their claws out watch out.

I have a friend who calls it "foofing"; the name she gave it has stuck in my head for over 25 years. I'm sure you notice, most times the "foof" is accompanied by purring; I'm sure it is a sign of a happy, well adjusted contented cat.

5. hezoid (1731) | 4 months ago | It's a sign that your cat thinks you its mother! Apparently they did that to their mother cat as kitten to encourage her to express milk for them to feed on. My parter always refers to my cat as 'bedding down' when she kneads him/me or whateer she is about to sleep on.

Purring, however, does not always mean contentment. A cat will also purr loudly when ill or upset. But the kneading is indicative of satisfaction with life. lol

8. Wispofcloud (102) | 4 months ago | From what I've heard, kitten knead to their mothers as a sign that they want milk. Later when they reach adulthood, the cats associate kneading with that same feeling of want and comfort. Both of my cats do that whenever they settle down in my lap. For the most part I wouldn't mind it, except for the fact that they have very sharp claws! lol

9. barbiedollgirl (796) | 4 months ago | Yes I love this! I have three cats and only one of them kneads. Lucky loves to knead on my arm and she is purring the whole time. She will only knead on my bare arm. Sometimes she will just lick my arm and her front legs are marching up and down! My middle cat, TJ, does this too. He loves to march when he's being petted ... he also purrs very loudly at the same time. He also "air kneads" ... his toes are stretched in mid air when he's picked up and he looks as if he's kneading! My oldest cat Teddy, does not knead at all!
