I can barely believe that the Velvets are not being discussed on MyLot.com I think its time we changed that as they are the band whose influence is to be seen more than any other band on todays pop/rock music scene. Would anybody like to give us a start with their 5 favorite Velvet songs and any reason you like for picking them? Waiting for my Man!

most of the Velvet Underground and Nico, The Gift, slightly off topic - this bloke who had an opinions column in the local paper when I was growing up made a casual referance (while suggesting that he could post himself instead ) to what happened to poor old Waldo Jeffries, as if he/it was real , The first time I heard the song, this was years later on bbc Radio 3, Late Junction I think, I was following the story and suddenly thought..."this sounds a bit like that person/story they mentioned.. oh this is wtf they were talking about omg". Definitly not Sister Ray - heard a dutch or german radio station's avent-guarde show playing different versions of it back to back late one night - was listening on head phones and fell a sleep during one, woke up sudennly during what I think was part of the guitar amp version (f-ing terrifying anyway) and they were still "sucking on a ding-dong"

three years later and I'm listening to cd 1 of The Velvet Underground - Gold right now, hearing Sister Ray (white/light white/heat version) for the first time since and it's suddenly making total sense.

well right until it gets faster & noiser about 9 minutes in before slowing right down - sounding like background atmospherics from a Satanic horror and being attacked by static/feedback

*Venus in Furs - love the electric violin, wicked lyrics and the seedy tune *All tomorrows parties - even Nick Cave must have loved this as I think he did a cover *Sunday morning - pretty tune contrasted with Nico's guttural voice *Femme Fetale - pretty with Nico's other type of voice *Heroin - such a great beginning and speeds up and slows down gee, there's five already, so many others...... Rock and Roll, White Light/White heat....(and I didn't mention sweet jane!)

Hi Vevegirl, what a perfect list. It's actually impossible to restrict the number to five, isn't it? I loved it when you added Sweet Jane at the end. Rock and Roll and Sweet Jane are definitely the best they did at the end. I would definitely have Sunday Morning, All Tomorrow's Parties and Femme Fatale. There are two others I would like to add to the 5 plus list, which I really like: "Jesus" and "Pale Blue Eyes". See you. Umart
