Can the idealogy behind being a successful leader and the quality and values of being humble clash with each other ? All throughout our upbringing, we are made to understand the importance of being humble and how dangerous our egos can be. However at some stage in life we decide that in order to be succesful we need to be in front and strive to become leaders. Do you think you can be both a good leader and humble ? Also do you think its ok to have a bit of your ego develop to reach your goal in today's extremely competitive world.

It's very difficult to be humble and a good political leader at the same time in today's perspective. In olden times this was so obvious. But today, a good, humble person will lose his integrity in the process of becoming a leader. Its the fault of the system, the society in which we are living in present time. It's indeed sad!

Yes Mimpi its very sad indeed. How easily people who want to do good for the country with the good qualities that they learn ,either just get lost and forgotten about or get sucked into going about it in the ways of today's world. Thanks

Good question. I think to be a leader you must also be a follower. Leaders bring out the best in people, they find ways to make others excell in what they do, the leader should never get in their own way either. Being humble shows you're not the best but you have a willing spirit to be the best. Leaders learn from the people around them and if everything is in alignment then the people who follow the leader will know that one day, they will break off and be inspired to lead others. If you just want to be the top dog then everyone will want to take you down. If you want to lead people, then you'll find people who are looking for somebody to inspire them and make them find the greatness in themselves.

Very well said indeed. It is the spirit of humbleness in the leader which will be ultimately recognised by the people.

It truly depends on the definition of humbleness or humility and how people will percieve the leader's acts. One may see a humble leader not a good leader since he tends to be virtious and not strict but then again he can be the perfect leader for he sets the perfect example.

of course they can be humble if they want to. don't think any of them want to. they are too busy promoting themselves to think of anyone else. i believe what goes around comes around. i hope it does. as for your ego it certainly doesn't hurt to be confident & self assured but as w/ ego just don't carry it so far that people notice it & dislike u. good luck.

Thats right, a little bit of ego in the form of self confidence and motivation is required to keep you going.

yes, I think that this is very possible. They just need to set their mind to it. We are what we make of ourselves.

What you say is very true. It's just that once these leaders have felt the taste of power, they tend to loose thier humility.
