i was raised on bread egg |
|
my parents loved us and did their best to raise us well. in some areas they were overprotective. during my whole childhood we were asked, Do you want bread egg? bread egg of course was a slice of bread dipped in egg. and sometimes we would request, we want bread egg. as i grew i'd hear occasionally on tv or outside the home French Toast. i always wondered what that was. it sounded so enchanting. so mystical and enticing. i wanted to try it some day. but it sounded way to fancy for something to have in our home. then one earthshaking day i was talking with some other kids and they mentioned french toast so i asked them what it was. after they described it, i said OH you mean bread egg. sometime after that i went to my parents. i was now looking back on that conversation and feeling embarrassed. i asked my dad WHY did you call it bread egg, when it is french toast? my dad said that he and mother didn't think we'd understand and they were trying to make it easy for us. I know they loved us. they truly did. i just felt i was missing out on something when the rest of the world had french toast.

1. Wolfechu (891) | 1 year ago | You know, I don't know if it's because I'm British and we have no tastebuds, but my mother thinks 'eggy bread' like that is the height of breakfast cuisine. I don't think French toast entered my vocabulary till about 5 years ago. It always seems a bit too sweet for my tastes, but there you go;)

4. Ruthep (5913) | 1 year ago | To me egg bread and french toast are two different things. French toast has sugar and milk, possibly even a little cinnamon and vanilla extract, but egg bread is just bread, usually homemade, dipped in plain egg. I love both. My dad was raised on egg bread so we had it now and then, but mostly it was french toast. Isn't funny when you always think something is called one thing and then find out years later it is really named something else?

greenglitterturtle (1899) | 1 year ago | it is. in michigan where i was raised we always had muskmelon. years later all of a sudden all we ever heard of was cantelope. my mom knew a lady from kentucky and they asked her to give them the pail. she didn't know what they were talking about. when they showed her she said oh the bucket.
