here in canada, there is a Sikh gentleman that was told to leave the jobsite (safety reasons!)because he wouldn't shave his beard. he feels he is being discrimiated, so he is suing the company. another Sikh gentleman went to court because he feels he cannot wear a motorcycle helmet because of his turbun that he needs to wear for religious reasons. i am sure you have stories of your own and i am not necessarily pointing fingers at Sihks, but what do you think?

i live in BC and that is a huge issue out here when it comes to sikh's wearing helmets but the way i see it is if they don't want to follow the laws of canada then their the ones that are going to pay for it by loosing their life or at the very least loosing whatever motor functions they have because they get into an accident and aren't wearing a helmet. as for the guy that got told to leave the jobsite cause he wouldn't shave his beard depending on the jobsite it could be a safety hazard. a depending on how long his beard is.

My attitude is this Laws are made to protect the majority. I would say if the job for safty reasons requires he should shave then shave or find a new job. I have worked many places where I had to put my hair up or wear certain clothing or footwear. We all ahve had to do many things different then what we prefer to get or keep a job. My attitude about the motorcycle is just find another means of transportation or get a bigger helmet and stop wasting taxpayers dollars with all this stupidity! There are wayy too many real rights being walked on to waste the court times on this stuff! xoxoxoxoxo

Just wondering,in view of the second example, how the first Guy's beard could be a building site hazard? Was it so long there was a risk he'd get it caught in some rotating machinery? When the Second Guy refused a crash Helmet, did the first Guy refuse to wear a Hard Hat? I never worked on a Bulding site,or rode a motorbike, and I haven't worked with a Sikh to ask questions about this sort of thing..These issues have to have been raised previously within the English Sikh Population,so how were these issues resolved there? If the Law requires You to wear a Helmet when riding a Bike for Your own safety,You can comply with the Law,or use other forms of transport that don't need safety equipment to be worn..bus,car..Health and Safety legislation is not a Religous issue.

I hope the first man doesn't get what he is suing for, because if he worked for a restaurant, no matter what religion he is people don't want hair in their food!!! And for the other guy, I say let him go without a helmet. Its his brains that will be splattered all over the pavement. I feel kinda sorry for him, I don't think I could serve a God that would rather me keep up my religious habits rather than take precautions for my safety.
