Crossing the Color Line

I have to admit with hesitation that sometimes I wish I would've married a farmboy from high school and settled down. I have never been one to do things the easy way.Instead, a married a black man and had bi-racial kids. I crossed the color line at an early age. I love my husband and kids but I feel like I made my life difficult unnecessarily. Can anyone relate?

I cant. You had the guts to do something not always accepted in the world so I think that was your choice good or bad. My family is very close minded about such things and if I were to marry or be involved with a black person I would probably not introduce him to my immediate or extended family. It's a shame that we should have these prejudices in this day and age but soemtimes older family members do. It is quite common in my area of the country to see bi racial couples.

Wouldn't it be nice if we knew how things were going to turn out before we did them? I wouldn't have married the same man, either, although he is the same color as I am (white). But in a lot of ways he has made my life better, too, maybe better than it would have been if I had married someone else. I guess all we can do is love our spouse for whatever good he brings to us, and deal with the difficult things one day at a time.
