Olympics are going to be hard on the Chinese.

With the olympics in Beijing, Chinese citizens have been told to adjust their lifestyles in so many ways. The lastest is that restaurants are being told to stop serving dog meat while the tourists are there. Now, if I'm going over to China, I want to experience their real culture, not a watered down version they think will make the tourists happy. I would be really offended when the Olympics comes to Canada in 2010 if the goverment told us we couldn't eat back bacon, or maple syrup. I think China should show the world what they're really like.

Frankly, I am a Chinese living in Guangzhou. Here people enjoy eating. However, dog isn't a common meat and I haven't eaten it before. Most of the time we eat meats like beef, pork, fish etc. Some foreigners think that we often eat dogs, cats, snakes etc. and I tell you that's not the truth. As to Beijing, I have been there twice but I haven't seen or tried any special meats. I went there to enjoy the Beijing duck. Our government tries to do something better for the Olympics. Some methods may not be convenient for the local people, such as they will adjust to their time to go to work so that they will be less traffic jam. I think most Chinese will understand this. After all, it's a wonderful event and we hope to hold it well. I love China

I think you're right. They shouldn't have to change their entire lifestyle to suit tourists.

It does sound rather hypocritical, and misleading. If China won the right to have the Olympics, then China should be allowed to have them, without their own government picking and poking at them and telling them everything they do is wrong. I like your analogy, with the maple syrup.

My son has been in China for the last month or so. He has not had any trouble finding dog meat on the menu.
