The Unsinkable Ship

Do you believe there was a deeper meaning to the sinking of the Titanic? Do you think the massive ship was allowed to sink because of man’s pride and self sufficiency in thinking the ship would never sink? Share your thoughts as to why you think the ship sank (other than the obvious, physical reason of hitting the iceberg, of course). Thanks in advance!

Who knows? But I believe that's a definite possibility. The part where Cal says that not even God can sink this ship, according to historical accounts, actually happened. It's not wise to "shake your finger in God's face" like that. Sooner or later, he's gonna smack you down and put you in your place.

Thanks for your response. I couldn't have said it better myself! You're definitely right that it's not a wise thing at all to mock God because He sees the bigger picture and doesn't appreciate man thinking he knows better. I really appreciate your feedback. Thanks a bunch and have a great day!

You are asking if it was an Act of God. I do not think it was, but I do think it is something that God allowed to happen. I believe that people are arrogant, and think that they can make perfection, but they cannot. It was an unforseen scenario, and a tired crew, and although they had planned for the contingency of a straight on impact, and had safeguards in place, no one had thought of an entire side being ruptured and more compartments opened up and filled with sea water than could be balanced out by the still intact compartments. No one figured that 300 feet of rivets would be busted loose. It was just beyond human imagination.

I really like your response because it's very true, in my opinion. I don't think God forced this to happen by any means. I don't think that's His character; however, you're right when you say He allowed it to happen...for reasons we don't really know completely. Obviously, we look at the incident much later after a deeper study of why (physically) it happened. No one anticipated it, but it still happened. If nothing else, it was a great way for man to learn from his mistakes. No years later, we all can learn a valuable lesson from what happened. With my fear of large bodies of water, I don't think I would've gotten on the ship in the first place. (LOL) Thanks for your excellent response. It's just what this discussion needed. Take care!
