I was rude at the store today...

Oh I am a little ashamed, it is not the first time I have been rude but it was really sort of uncalled for this time. I was shopping for clothes after work, had gathered about 15 things only to be told I had to try on 3 at a time. As I had everything in 2 sizes, this meant I could not even try on 2 outfits at a time. When she told me, I kind of said, "Oh really? I don't think that will work", then she tried to tell me I could leave it hanging on the outside of the door and switch them out, but it seemed like a lot of trouble, plus there were men in the store and right outside dressing rooms, so I would still have to change to switch the clothes. I was just so annoyed as I only needed a couple of things to wear to my new job, and I finally got paid today. As she was taking clothes and commenting on how many things I had, I was so overwhelmed thinking of trying everything on 3 at a time that I just said, I do not have time for this, and walked away. She even apologized as I was walking away and I should have said, "oh that's OK", but I did not, just kept walking.
Yes I realize how horrible this makes me sound..I am not always such a witch, but after 5 hours of sleep and encountering way too many obnoxious drivers, realizing it would take me an hour to try on clothes was just too much. Have you ever overreacted like this? Do you feel guilty when that happens?

oh dear i'm so sorry to hear about your bad day. it must be really terrible to have slept only 5 hours. well, at least you didn't insist to bring all of them into the changing room. although the salesgirl really just did what she had to do. we all have our bad days and it's nothing to be ashamed of. if you really feel bad about it, maybe you can drop by on a good day. see if there's anything you really like from the store and buy it from her. take care and be safe. cheers ;p

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but thanks for the response.
I never did get to go back there, as that store was near my job and they let me go a few weeks later. The store is pretty far to go just for shopping, and it's a chain with closer stores, so at least I never have to go back there.

it was a bit extreem the way you acted but sometimes we just can't controll ourselfs, and on 5 hours of sleep I know I would be short tempered if I didn't get my way. I am usualy mild in temper there are sometimes I go out with something particular in mind. To me I figure it should be in and out no problem but there are times I can't always get what I want and will sometimes change my tune to let others aware of my disatisfaction. Usualy though I will clam down beofre I leave and apologize if I have to. I know I would feel bad if someone has treated me the same way, so I try to keep from treating others like this.

Yes, putting yourself in the other's place is a good way to control your behavior. Usually I do this, but sometimes not until it is too late!

One has to understand that the shopkeeper was obeying the stores instructions. So I dont blame her for giving such instructions. Most supermarkets have such policy that you cannot try more than three items at once. I understand that you had a terrible day and I guess that you have over reacted in this occasion. But lets face it. Everyone does at some time or another. Yes I do feel guilty when such things happen. I try not to vent out my anger on others but sometimes it happens to me as well

only in the one store here.it's a music store that's been here forever, and until the internet, they were the only game in town.
they treat every patron like a thief,i've never seen a store so rude anywhere else,i'm amazed they get customers at all.
they will follow you around the whole time you're trying to shop, asking "can i help you"in that "i don't think you can afford it" tone.
the one day i just said "nope,i'm not stealing today,go help someone else"
another time i got up to the counter and they're like "oh,this is x amount of money you know" before they rang it up.
oh..really?i just thought i'd pick out stuff and make you put them back.
i guess most of their sales are from tourists, because all the locals have said the same thing about their sales tactics.i really try not to be rude to clerks, but they
just seem like they don't want business too much.
thank god for net stores

that's what they don't seem to get..it costs them sales.
we always wondered if that store was a front for money laundering, they were so "whatever" about sales.

"Nope, I'm not stealing today, go help someone else"....that's a great one!
I've had people follow me around asking to "help" me, and if they ask me twice or follow me, I usually just leave. I'm sure they pat themselves on the back thinking they've thwarted a thief, but really they just lost a sale.
Mentioning about the cost as though they've decided you can't afford it is incredibly rude. I think I would stick to online shopping too, if there were no other options.

I am often not as nice as I should be and I dont have a good excuse. Some things just rub me the wrong way and I let them get to me. I shouldnt let certain things bother me. I do let them bother me though becaise I am not perfect. I am going to work on my disposition. I wish I could do something about it.

Yes, I have that same problem. Something will bother me for no good reason, and that makes it hard to be nice.

Well, I do encounter rude sales clerks from time to time. I do get into word exchanges with some especially those with no respect and those who doesn't pay attention to their work.
But I scolded a few who were very irritating like, "hey Sir, try this. This will look good on you." I politely say no then, "How bout this one sir? It's cheaper" I just say no but any further I'd have to look in the eye and give a stern no.
There are times as well, much like the one you had, when I am just not in the mood to talk to anyone and get irritated easily even with the slightest word. I do feel guilty at times and just think, she could have helped me on that. Well, I just move on and try to control my temper as much as I can. Take care!
