Why Baby?

I have a few ideas of why, but I'd just love to hear from others on this... When we're in love with somebody, why do we often refer to him or her as "Baby" and/or talk baby-talk to his/her picture and even to him/her? And why do we start talking like a cross between a nurturing Mommy (in the case of us women) and Elmer Fudd when getting expressive about our special one. I don't know how many times, I've talked to one or more of Russell's pictures, and the conversation sounds something like this: "Awllllll...Wussie, oo such a pwecious bay-bee. I just wuv oo! (and on and on and on...)" Just what does that kind of Dutchy talk have to do with being in love and/or crushing on somebody--and especially so in women? Both men and women are welcome to give their take on this...

I think we women especially just want to mother our special men. They bring out the passion in us but they also bring out maternal instincts!

My only explanation for it... would be that it is a natural instinct built into us. We do it when we are in love with our partner... we do it with our children... and we do it with our pets. It is our way to express our love... and we talk baby talk to present ourselves as inofensive, innocent and sweet to get a response from the object of our affection. We descend into childwood in order to appear pure... and for those brief seconds or minutes... all the evil is chased from our mind. We are angels.

What a sweet answer! I never thought of it that way! Of course, I definitely thought of the nurturing part where it was a sign that we were nurturing those we love, but we also not only become like parents to our sweethearts but we also become like children wanting to be nurtured and cared for. That is, we talk baby-talk to the little babies contained in our sweethearts, and we talk baby-talk as it comes from our own inner babies!

It may be another way of expressing love. I am not sure as i am not into any relationship. also i have seen it may be the another way to be sweet to the love of life.

Awllllllllll................ Me wuv dat wesponse! One thing to think about is that babies--except for those who end up in abusive homes--feel comforted and safe with their Mommies and Daddies. There's a certain nurturing part that comes out in a relationship where our sweethearts also become our children in the sense that we want to comfort and protect them. So this kind of expression might be a manifestation of this feeling.

The only creatures I talk baby talk to are cats and dogs. They don't grow up and start talking. If they did I wouldn't baby talk them either.

That's one kind of connection. Cats & dogs are cuddly--and so are sweeties! I think that there's probably a little baby inside of each of us, and sometimes the one who loves you senses that innocent and vulnerable part of yourself and expresses himself/herself to it.

I've never done that kind of thank with any of my men. sounds kinda silly when you sit back and listen to it. My brother in law and his wife do it. They sound like kids, and there in there 50's. So I guess its just what you want to do.

I'm 55 and Russell's 67. We're online friends and have never met face-to-face, though we've talked on the phone. But he just melts my heart and brings out the baby-talk in me sometimes. I think I just want to take care of him, and I feel very protective of him because he's been through so much in his life.
