A good discussion is an education.

The reason I love Mylot so much is because I get an education from everything I read, whether it be false information or information based on actual facts that were documented.
I value opinions and insight from others and I love that I get the same respect on an online forum. Perhaps the money aspect keeps people nicer on here than most forums, but that was probably why the owners of Mylot decided to give us pay. They wanted QUALITY over quanitity.
Most times, I will go on a forum and read only 3 posts and all 3 of them have someone with a good point and someone who commented them that they are stupid and have no idea what they are talking about and #@!$@%@% everywhere. I think there are people in the world who just LOVE to argue everything and not for any purpose other than arguing.
An argument in discussion form, one that can hold a real value in the decision weighing, is educational. An argument in attacking form...pointless.

The only drawback I see is that sometimes people with a differing opinion bite their tongue to avoid negative ratings, you see a lot of posts that say "I know I might get a negative rating, but..." And thats a shame.
But the people who do venture to argue tend to speak politely and eloquently, which is very nice!

Yes, that's just as good as saying "no offense but..." when it's ALWAYS something offensive!!

I agree with you, Dee, and I think that this is an excellent discussion.
At one point in my schooling, it was said that there was more to be learned in the discussions with the teachers than in what actually took place in the classroom... I don't know that I would quite go that far, as I valued what I received in the classroom, but the informal discussions were certainly beneficial.

Yes, I agree with that. I went to college online, and 90% of our grade was based on participation in the forums. We had to respond with relevant content and factual information to at least 5 people in each topic, plus we had to answer the question our teacher wrote without repeating something someone else said. The reason is partly because online education is so much different than traditional means, and partly because the discussion is what gets you thinking and thinking becomes education.

Hi Dee,
I'm Opal. Yes you are right. There are nice people in this forum.
That is what I have found too. There is a great deal to learn
about alot of things. Unfortunately, there are the few who will
mess up things for the good people, but that is to be expected
as it is in life. But overall Mylot is a great place to be able
to have interesting discussions and get real feedback from real
people so keep posting!

Yes, I did come across one post where someone decided to make 4 or 5 fake names and comment himself to game the system. People like that are the ones who help ruin forums!
