Am I selfish to bring my kids out in 100 degree weather?

I am trying to reason this out among myself as I sit in my chair contemplating. I get in the mood where I want to do something outdoors and when I get in the mood I cannot shrug it off but I know its hot out and I feel like going for a hike, one of my favorite things to do. I was going to take them to this state park that has alot of three cover and a creek they can play in the water in but it still will be hot but my reason is if their having fun then it shouldnt bother me. I then thought I could take them to YMCA and they can play with the other kids while I exercise some but thats still indoors and I find it a little cool being outside with my kids regardless of the weather--I haven't actually went outside to see but if its really humid then thats not good conditions but if its just hot then it shouldnt. Yesterday was considered hot in alot of peoples eyes but me and my boyfriend found a tree to sit under and read the paper while the kids played in the lawn on campus. We always have alot of water on hand and I know the symptoms of heat exhaustion. I know I could just take them to the pool but I just do not see it as fun and I do not like how the sun reflects off the water and its so bright I like going to the pool around 5pm (which we'll do later). Do you think badly of mothers who have their kids out in hot weather? What do you think, what do you do?

I live in Florida where it's always hot so, if kids didn't go out in the heat they would never get to go outside! Humidity is what makes the heat the most uncomfortable so just because it's hot does not mean that it's totally uncomfortable anyway and, unless the kids are complaining, they are handling the temperature well. Going to the state park sounds like a very enjoyable thing to do and, since you bring water, I don't see any dangers in it from the heat. Many kids today are sitting in the house all day, gettin lazy and fat, so I think it's great that you get them outside and allowing them to play.

yea, your right, I got to thinking about this because I was listening to the news and they said to just stay inside if you do not have to go out and I was thinking, 'are people going to be scowling at me' for bringing the kids out because I actually did that in the Winter where I bundled my kids in almost 4 layers and still had a guy TELL me 'take them home, get them inside' ---a complete stranger!

It sounds like you put a lot of thought into your kids feelings and keeping them comfortable, so that does not sound selfish to me. As long as they don't get overheated (sick), it seems like a chance to have fun with your kiddos outdoors.

As long as they're hydrated, shade is nearby, they keep cool, and they have sunscreen, and don't overexert, it's not bad.

I think as long as they are cared for(water, shade, fun) you're doing good. Children thrive all over this planet. I don't think you're being selfish. Children need to go out and play.
