A headteacher has been sacked for working too many hours. Vanessa was barred from the school and unable to return to say goodbye to staff and children. She was told she could pick up her belongings in the summer holidays.
This has sparked protests with parents, six have withdrawn their children from the school leaving just 28 pupils.
Vanessa's problems started when she was off work with back complaints but was told she could return to work if she didn't teach, did light duties and worked school hours.
Due to the school having one full time teacher Vanessa felt compelled to work longer hours.
Having been a teacher for 18 years and a head teacher for 7 years she was really upset. She doesnt know if this will affect her pension.

Bonkers bonkers bonkers Cinders. They must have wanted rid of her for some other reason and this was a handy excuse. I can't see her losing at a tribunal if this is the best that the school can come up with. I used to be a School Governor and sacking a teacher, except for cases of gross misconduct, is very difficult. I doubt that it will affect her pension though.

WOW, you are a man of all trades arent you!!!
I dont think she will lose at a tribunal, hopefully she will be able to get her pension!!
Must be horrible though, imagine all that she has done for the school in those 18 years and then eight days before her pension is due, she gets sacked!!

Never pass up an opportunity Cinders. You might not always enjoy doing something but neither will you grow old thinking "I wish that I had done such and such when I had the chance". Although I am a bit pedestrian now, I have had many experiences in my life and regret none of them. Mind you there are some that I'd not repeat.

It's one of these stories that I am unable to comprehend the reasons behind her dismissal. Being sacked for lack of professionalism or not being able to due your duties is one thing but sacking for working too many hours is another.
