More Fiber Can Lower Cholesterol

My husbands cholesterol is up. We just saw the Dr about it. He suggested a change in diet. Upon viewing the diet, we realized that our diet was ideal. The Dr then suggested more fiber in the diet. he said that fiber will acturally clean the cholesterol out of our bodies as long as we eat enough of it each day. I though that was interesting and had never heard of it before. have you heard that increasing your fiber intake could reduce your cholesterol?

The person who commented just before you also suggested pineapple juice. I love V8 juice so that should be good as well. Cool!

Yes, quite often. Neither of us have cholesterol problems, although I would bet my skinny hubby will before I do. Oat meal, and flaxseed are a couple of really great things to add in. If you do not grind the flaxseed they look like golden sesame seeds. I do grind them, though, and put some in anything I bake. They taste kind of nutty, and husband loves pancakes and stuff with ground flaxseed. It can be sprinkled into cold cereals as well. Broccoli is something else that is often mentioned, and all kinds of beans. It takes longer for dietary changes to improve cholesterol, but it is much more economical, and I think it is easier on the body. Niacin is also supposed to help your cholesterol levels, but should be taking on a full stomach to avoid the flushing sensation. Talk to the doctor about that too, maybe.

Yes, I have heard that before which is why whole grains are in the news for fighting cholesterol. Another reason that I think this is works is when you eat a high fiber diet you eat less, which means you eat less meat, fat, etc - or whatever your trigger for cholesterol may be.

I have heard the same thing about fiber lowering cholesterol. Oatmeal is another food product that can really help lower a persons cholesterol. There is a Quaker Oats Fiber Oatmeal that your husband may want to try. Some cereals like Raisin Bran have quite a bit of Fiber in them as well. Fiber does help clean out a persons system. I would definitely recommend listening to the doctor on this one as it will help your husband with his cholesterol level.

It makes sense to me. Fiber flushes out all the bad stuff in our system, and when we don't eat enough of it, we retain all the excess fat that doesn't come out if we are not 'regular', which leads to worse cholesterol with a lot of people I imagine. I am conscious about the amount of fiber I eat, not because of my cholesterol, but because to lose weight, it helps to eat the recommended amount of fiber. All Bran is a great fiber cereal. My doctor recommended eating a bowl of it before every meal. It not only will make a person eat less, but as I said before, it helps flush out our systems. Sometimes when I haven't eaten enough fiber I take an orange fiber pill. It is chewy and tastes good too. I don't remember the name of it though.

I have heard this too. I think I read something about this on the interent in the last month or so. I bet it is very possible that fiber can help reduce cholesterol. It sure would be nice to know for sure that it works though. I have fiber supplements here at home to take also. I will have to look into a little bit more and see if I can find more information on it.
