We just got a new puppy! Any advice?  

Get a book on How to train a dog/puppy.
I did and it was the best move I ever made, the techniques are so simple and work so well. Especially if it's an inside dog, it is important to have it properly trained, you'll be happy and so will your puppy.

I finally got my puppy trained so I will tell you what worked for me. First thing get a crate to keep your puppy whenever you go to sleep or you go out. Thats the first thing you will need. Do not put the puppy in there when he has an accident as a form of punishment. This is supposed to be some place where they wont be afraid to go into. Next walk your puppy as much as you can & most importantly do not leave the food dishes down all day. Leave down long enough for your puppy to eat then pick them up. Wait an hour or two & put them back down & repeat until around 5 p.m. then pick them up for the night. Always make sure you praise & give treats to your puppy whenever they do business outside. If the puppy has an accident do not hit or yell at them, but say no in a firm voice & immediately take them outside to show them thats where they are to do their business.
