keeping in touch or stalking? |
|
I hate to admit it, but I'm a total Facebook.com addict. Every time I get online it is the first site I sign into. But all of the new features start to worry me. You can track who is friends with whom, who comments where, who likes what. With the features such as pictures, Facebook profiles become idols to ourselves. People can learn so much about us just by flipping through our profile for just a few minutes. Is Face book simply a great site for keeping in touch with friends or is it an ingenuous tool for stalking?

1. Wolfechu (821) | 3 months ago | Mostly keeping in touch, at least in my case. Half the people I have friended on there are acquaintances from a forum we all post to, so everyone knows everyone to start with; there's not a lot to stalk. The other half are generally friends, family, and old coworkers. They either know each other, or have little in common. Either way, I make my profile publically available to anyone to start with. I'm probably too boring for anyone to bother stalking;)

5. desertdarlene (5656) | 3 months ago | I think it's more like keeping in touch for the average user. Though, I can see how someone would be able to "stalk" someone there. I mean, if your ex-boyfriend is there and can see who you are friends with, that could be a problem. But, the thing is that you have control over a lot of your own content. You can make your profile private or delete that boyfriend from our connections. I'm not sure, but I also think that you can block people from viewing things you post there. But, I'm still pretty new there myself, so I'm not so sure about that.

| 6. clstar08 (74) | 3 months ago | It is just like any tool of humanity: it can be used for evil. I think for the majority of people it is used as a tool for staying in touch, but can be used by stalkers. Like dynamite was designed for good and turned to evil. Dun dun dun...
