I feel so lonely sometimes

Okay so I love my family and everything but right now I have no real close friends. All my friends are away in college and the last friend that was near me is leaving this august to her college. So I'll basically be alone and stuff. I do have my family but it's not the same. I mean I need to find a friend that shares the same interest as me and that I can hang out with and have fun. Right now I'm just at home every day staring at my computer and just doing nothing.
So I've decided that this semester when I enter college I'm going to try and join some clubs like a sorority or something and then go out and have some fun by myself and do stuff. I'll probably take my family to do stuff too but I need some friends so I can talk to. Have any of you guys felt this way before?

i hope you have made a lot of friends already. how's college life?
i feel that way sometimes too. family and friends are really different entities. one can give something which the other cannot. and it makes you sad when one is present but what you need can only be given by the other one. in my case, i am not close with any of the members in our family. so whenever i have problems, whenever i am feeling down, or whenever something good happens, i talk to my friends first. and if none is available, it really makes me sad and depressed. i just find it hard to open up with the members of the family. i do need them for family love. but the comfort that friends can give is really different. maybe its because, my friends are of same age and we have the same interests and we easily understand each others. unlike with my family, only my youngest sister has similarities with me but still, we share only a few the same interests and she's now married so we don't have much time to bond anymore. the rest of the family has totally different interests and level of understandings.

Family and friends are very different. Yeah and well right now I haven't made to many friends at college because I've been so busy with college classes and stuff and it's harder when your a commuter and don't live in the dorm. But I'm hoping to make some friends know that all my high school friends have made their own lives. Most of them don't keep in touch anymore.
