Garmin, TomTom, Magellen???? |
| |
| OK, I need some input (quickly) for a GPS system. We're looking at them and would like to have it by this weekend. My husband wants the Garmin because his son said that's the best. They all looked the same, and in our price range they all seem to do the same thing. If any of you have any experience with one that you like over another, can you give me a little input. Why you do/don't like a particular one? | | | | | |

| | I think we have a magellan. It's pretty good but at times it thinks like someones driveway is a road. It also gets confused when it's at a destination and tells you that somehting is on one side of the road and it is really on the oppostie side of the road. I dont usually use the locator to be honest but when you are totally cluelss about how to get somewhere it can come in handy. It aslo tells you the shortest route so it is good to help save on gas prices. | | | | | | |

| | I have heard that some say right when it should be left and the other way around. I just don't know if that's all of them or one in particular. | | | |

| | Hello reinydawn I have a GPS for my automobile and I love it. I can travel all over the place and never need a map, although I suggest having a map for those times that you want to know where you are. There have been times when I've just followed the GPS directions and had not a clue where I was, only how far I had traveled and how far it was to my destination. I have a Magellan Maestro 4040. When it works, it's great, but I had one that simply refused to stay on. I think that something was wrong with the charger on it and it wasn't getting power. Other than that, it's been fantastic. It talks to me and it tells me the name of the street where I make my next turn. Not only that, but it's intuitive in how to use it. I didn't have to read a manual to be able to figure it out. It has bluetooth capabilities, too, although I haven't used that feature. My dad has another brand, and it's much more difficult to figure out for programing. The only Garmin GPS I've used is a handheld one I had for hiking and camping. It was nice but much different than an auto GPS. If you can think of anything specific to ask, please do so. Good luck! | | | | | | |

| | Thanks Trans. I think I do like the Magellan better, but my husband is only looking at the Garmin because his son said they are the best. I want one that is portable and we can move between vehicles. I'd also like the ones that have QWERTY keyboards not just ABC - I think they cost a lot more than we have to spend though. The Garmin does tell you street names and stuff so that's cool for us. They also seemed pretty easy to work, but they were kinda limited in the store as to what they could do and find. At least I hope it was just in the store.... | | | |

| | With the Magellan I have, there is also the ability to just talk to it instead of typing in the information and, for a fee, you can get live traffic reports so that I can plan my route accordingly. Another feature I like is the Detour feature. If the GPS determines that I am going very slow, it will ask if I want to detour around and then continue on my route. I also like how it automatically adjusts if I change my route off of what it has given me. It's also portable between vehicles and I have even used it on my bicycle. | | | |

| | I can do without the voice recognition, I think, but I do need the ones that change the routes automatically when I go a different way. | | | |

| | I don't use the voice recognition either. But this model offers a lot of options. | | | |

| | My sister has a garmin and she love it. We do not have one. I know that costco has them 100 dollars off right now if you members. | | | | | | |

| | We aren't members of Costco - it's about 45 minutes away. But we do belong to Sam's and they have better prices on them than Best Buy. I think we have to have it delivered to get that price though... | | | |

| | So far I have only ran into one and it was to win a Wii. It was one of those that you have to met so many offers in section 1, so many in section 2 and 3. By the time you have done that you have spent 1200 dollars. I do not go for those adds. | | | |

| | I don't have much of a preference, but my husband just bought a TomTom for work and he really seems to love it. He loves the touch screen and ease of navigating the menus. Plus he's able to download different navigator voices so you're not stuck with the standard female robot sounding one :) | | | | | | |

| | My husband is only looking at the Garmin, I though we were trying to compare the different brands to see what we wanted. I think I like the Magellan better though. | | | |
