When you start INDEPENDENT in your life?

I would have to say I needed to gain independence at about eighteen years old. I think it was kind of young, but probably for the best. I left home and went on to different things. I am now forty years old. I still like my independence. I am married but can hold on to my autonomy. I also have a four year old son at home. It's not always easy. Some people are more or less forced into becoming independent at a young age. Perhaps it help you to achieve more experience and strength in living.
