Have You Gone with a Month that You Don't Need to Spend on

"giving treats" to yourself? I mean for that month, you only have to spend on necessities, but nothing else. So have you experienced those months? What makes you spend less on "giving treats" to yourself? I think I am having one of those months in July. I haven't bought anything except paying bills and rent. The reason I think would be that I got so absorbed in working on one of my projects and I haven't given any thought of buying stuff.

I haven't had a month where I would spend absolutely nothing. But there were times when I spent very less compared to all the other months. I wish this kind of situation arises more often ;)

Hello wondericequeen, I am having that for months. I seldom 'giving treats' to myself nowadays as my working life is quite a routine. I drive to office and go home straight after office hours. I don't have time to spend looking for stuff for myself. I am only out for grocery shopping and sometimes when in need, to buy stuff for my son. So, I guess all the 'special stuffs' are from my previous shopping spree which was quite long ago.

with the gas prices situation i have been living in tight budget for many months. i think the last time i bought myself something is between january to march this year. also on top of gas prices, many people have been laid off so i am sure a lot of people also live on tight budget like me.

Bills, bills, and more bills. Fuel bill, taxes, need clothes for a new job, gas for my car, I look at my income and then at my bills and there if there is no room for anything except food (or some months not even that-good thing we buy ahead), then that is the way it is.

Haven't had money to really buy treats for myself. But I still made popcycles from juice, so I sort-of did. Take care.

hi wonderice! yes. i have. of course. there are just those days that i want to save money and just spend on things i need. be practical. i would spend only on food and transportation and some basic necessities like toiletries. sometimes its easy if i have a fixed goal on the end of the month. and that would be to pay bills and other credits i have acquired for the previous month. ^__^;; i have experienced that back when i wanted to pay all the clothes and other stuffs i ordered in the previous months.

Naturally, I'm a very thrifty person. I tend to be inclined to functionality. So anything which doesn't provide any functionality doesn't attract me. Thus I can go by long periods without buying anything other than bare necessity. It has happened in the past many times.

Most months are that way for me, too. But I do buy at least one non-necessity each month. It's not always a gift for myself. Sometimes, it's something for the house or my daughter. It's usually just one thing and costs around $30. Last month, I had to purchase my domain name for my website. That was my big thing. Could have been worse. Yahoo wanted to charge me $75 for my two other domain names. But I dropped them! Lucky me! That's money I can spend on myself now.
