I've been trying to save money on food and everything else like most people.
Things I've been doing are
1)Buying the makings for sandwiches, subs, soups etc and making them at home rather than buying ready made
I also freeze said soups and sandwiches for later & for convenience Its cheaper to make 12 of the same thing than it is to make 2 at a time.
2)Growing a garden. I save on peas, carrots, potatoes and lettuce. I also grow cucumbers radishes and tomatoes but those aren't things i typically will buy if i dont have them in the garden
3)Eggs from farmers or the hudrites (sorry i know thats spelt wrong)
4)I buy fresh fruit like blueberries and strawberries, or pick them then freeze them for use in smoothies, parfaits and other cold desserts. I hate paying 7 dollars for a bag of frozen fruit!
Picking of course is cheaper!
5)Getting meat directly from a farmer/rancher - yes you get a whole side of pork or beef and have it done the way you want it...but you pay less in the long run than you do buying from a supermarket.
6)Eating less takeout.
7) More water less juices, pops, milks and such.
8)Buy in bulk or on sale and use coupons
If its somethign i use often even if i dont need it right away and its a darn
good sale (like flour) I buy it and store it in the pantry
Does anyone else have other suggestions for me? Things they do?

I think you have some very good tips there, I think the freezing of things is a very good money saver, I have been having more soups in winter and salads in summer to try and save money rather than going out to Maccas and such.

Those are some very good tips my friend, and my family is working on growing a little garden but we keep losing vegetables to the wildlife around our house since we live in the country, and I can not think of any other suggestions but I will definitely try some of your tips to help me,my fiance, and my parents save money when it comes to food,so thanks for sharing them.

My brother suggested to us that we get coyote pee and put it around our garden to scare away the animals but I am not sure if it would work or not,I was happy to respond to you my friend, because I appreciate all the hard work that you put into your discussions, have a great day, good luck in your life, and Happy Posting.

Look for a buying co op. One that is popular is called Angel Food Ministries. I use one called Prairieland Foods. Typically you are asked to do one hour of volunteer work per month and then you can buy various "Packages" very cheaply. You might do a search for food co ops. For twenty four dollars we usually get around five meat selections, often a head of lettuce or cabbage, apples, oranges, and other fruit. Sometimes a dessert or goody is also included. Usually 3-5 lbs of potatoes. The meat selections usually will have four servings in the portions. Hot dogs, organic ready cooked meats, sausages, chicken, sometimes fish.

We've limited getting takeaway pizza and make them at home instead. In the past we'd end up buying extra things to get free delivery, now we only eat what we want as we are making it at home. It means we also create less waste and eat healthier.
We also use supermarket brands instead of big brands. This is so much cheaper and a recent documentary showed they were often healthier as they used less preservatives.
I buy big packs of dried fruit and nuts and then pack a small food bag as a healthy snack. I find I get hungry a lot and make sure I keep some healthy snacks with me. Like yourself I also drink more water and less juices. I buy any herbal teas when they are on offer to save some pennies.

I didnt realize that store brands have less preservatives in. Thats a good thing to know.
I had some if the ramen noodles in a cup the other day from Campbells and i was really ticked because i got it open and there was no flavouring and no veggies in it like it said there was...just plain noodles. I emailed them and their email bounced on the contact us link!
