I prefer novels with conspiracy, some love, well, an addictive cocktail. In the style of Dan Brown, Paulo Coelho and many others. I even like Nicholas Sparks, although it's veeeeeeeeery romantic and dreamy.

Yup, reading books help me build up my English vocabulary (but not necessarily grammar) as well learn more about those procedures & happenings in law courts, forensic labs, and investigation scenes!

My best authors are John Le Carre, absolutely the best ever spy writer, and Trevor McDonald, absolutely one of the best ever crime writers. Apart from those two anybody will do. Dennis LeHane is also extremely good with crime and there's the old and famous standard in crime, the guy who wrote the Sherlock Holmes stories, and that elderly giant of literature, G.K. Chesterton, author of the Father Brown stories. These are all excellent writers. You should check them out. They will help you a lot.
