Police Dog Killed In Cop Car!!! |
|
A police dog was left in his handler's car with the windows rolled up in 108 degreee heat in San Diego, California. Now while I am certain that the dog's handler did not do this on purpose, this five year old pooch suffered a stroke and die because of neglect. This is very sad, yet I can not help but wonder whether or not the handler will be prosecuted, even though he is himself a cop. What do you think should be done about this? I am anxious to hear your replies.

3. Valenas (809) | 3 months ago | Even though it may have been a mistake, he still needs to take responsibility, and face the charges. Even though he is a police officer, it does not mean that he is exempt from the law himself. I am sad to hear that the dog died because of the heat. People who own or handle dogs should know that dogs are never to be left in the car, no matter what the temperature is outside.

Rozie37 (6394) | 3 months ago | You know you are right. I had not thought about that. The dog should not be left trapped in the car like that, no matter what the temperature. I forgot the link earlier, it is now posted in the second response.

4. suspenseful (12837) | 3 months ago | Since he was responsible for the dog, he should be prosecuted for it. He should have left the window open just a bit. The dog is not going to use his teeth to open the knob is he? And since he is a cop, he should be more responsible then anyone else, since he is supposed to have training in taking care of an animal. I would say a fine, a demotion, and unpaid leave would be a good idea.

5. maddysmommy (10381) | 3 months ago | That's sad. He should be charged like anyone else would regardless if he is a cop or not. I know it's an accident but still, he's a dog handler and that dog was his responsibility.

6. hellcowboy (3129) | 3 months ago | Although the handler may not have done it on purpose,it is still very sad that the poor dog had a stroke and died because of the heat, and I do not care that the owner is a cop,he should know better than anyone that neglecting an animal is a crime, and he should go to trial for it,and maybe even lose his badge, because cops are supposed to pay attention to every detail, which includes whether or not their dog is in a car with the windows rolled up on a 108 degree day.

Rozie37 (6394) | 3 months ago | I do not even feel comfortable thinking about how children and animals suffer hopelessly when they are neglected like this. It is just too much. Check out the link in response two above.

hellcowboy (3129) | 3 months ago | Yeah it is very hard thinking about children and animals getting neglected like that, and it personally makes me sick on my stomach, and I will definitely check out the link you mentioned as soon as I get a chance, have a great day, good luck in your life, and Happy Posting.

7. Debs_place (5655) | 3 months ago | I think that is awful. That is cruelty to animals, it is abuse and neglect. The cop should be tried, it is common sense. You don't lock kids, dogs or senior citizens in your car on even a warm day much less a day where the temp is over 100. They should lock him in a car in heat like that and see how he feels.

Rozie37 (6394) | 3 months ago | I know what you mean, it is pretty awful to think about a dog having to suffer and die that way.

8. desertdarlene (5658) | 3 months ago | I hear he might be charged with animal cruelty. But, get this, he is still working with dogs on the K-9 division from what I've heard. I don't know if he takes a dog home anymore, but he's still working with their dogs. I don't know what people who do that are thinking. I work in a library, as you know, and people will go into the library for hours and leave their dogs in their cars with a little crack in the window and the car in the sun. We threaten to call the police on them about that matter. I mean, if you can't take your dog where you are going, then leave him/her at home. But, I have no clue as to why the guy didn't take the dog into his home with him. I know they often leave their dogs in the cars while they conduct business. But, they can often roll the windows all the way down as there is a cage to keep the dog from jumping out when they're not around.

Rozie37 (6394) | 3 months ago | I sure would like to continue to follow this story and find out what they decide. I can not believe that they still allow him to work with dogs. I also wonder what excuse he gave for leaving the dog locked in the car like that?

desertdarlene (5658) | 3 months ago | Here is a local link to the story. There was one story afterwards about how the dog died. I can't find it in writing that the officer is still working as a K-9 officer, it was mentioned on a the TV news. http://www.nbcsandiego.co...

9. Shaun72 (11293) | 3 months ago | This ios really sad. it reminds me of when I worked at Dunkin Dounuts there was a police man that came there to get 3 dounuts for his police dog. The kind that had no frosting on them. I think if anything he will lose his job. Maybe be prosecuted. he was proberly in a really big hurry and without thinking left the poor dog in the car with the windows shut. That is really sad.

Rozie37 (6394) | 3 months ago | I realize that mistakes happen all the time, but it just seems like this one could have easily been avoided. Although I do not have all the details.
| |
|
|
Shaun72 (11293) | 3 months ago | That is probely true. I mean he should have left a window down for the poor dog or took the dog with him sense that is what the dog was a police dog.

10. Hatley (12741) | 3 months ago | rozie being a cop makes this that much worse. he of all people 'should have known the heat would kill his dog. he is guilty as all sin and should be prosecuted the same way as any other person not a cop. this is outrageous and unbelieveable as the police should be trained on dogs left in cars and the terrible heat that kills them.. negligence in this instance is criminal.

Rozie37 (6394) | 3 months ago | I agree that it is really terrible, I hope that he has a good explanation for allowing that to happen. Though I can not imagine what it could be.
