I was reading up and catching up on some of the topics in another forum when I came across this comment. "Europe cars has no road tax to pay.... Road Tax are factored into the Fuel prices" Is this true? Cos I tried to google for something with regards to this, nothing much came up. I am really impressed if it is really true. A system where the road tax is factored into the fuel is a great idea! One of the best I have heard so far. A truly pay for what you use system that is beneficial to the consumer and the government. I wonder if this way of taxing will ever be considered in my country.

no road tax to pay? that's a great way of life man! well looking at the direction it's going, i sure hope it'll happen here. road tax has been getting cheaper now. not much but it's something. i remember reading somewhere that the approach is going to be a usage-based tax system. so if a person buys a car but doesn't use it, he should not have to pay anything. that's why we have all the ERPs and the fuel tax. hopefully the road tax will go down but the fuel tax won't go up. keeping my fingers and toes crossed till then. cheers ;p

I am not really sure if there is no road tax to pay. That is why it is in questions and answers. Well, with the way things are going on here, it had better be going in that direction loh. Cos if they are charging for every usage of the road, there is no valid reason for them to include road taxes any more. Does it? Whether we would see the day where car owners do not have to pay road tax, only time will tell. Only time will tell.

We have something like that here in the US, it's our gas tax. Each gallon of gas has taxes to it. This is how our major roadways are maintained, improved and constructed. I hear rumblings that Congress wants to raise the tax by 10 cents.

Am I to assume that with the gas tax, there will be no road taxes to pay? How much is the tax now? Is it levied on a per liter basis? If it is, 10cents per liter is a lot of money to be raising! Imagine, with one fill of a typical tank, we are talking about an additional 4-6 dollars or more. One month will be easily looking at $120-200 increase in fuel expenses for the car alone! Imagine, businesses that relies on transportation for the delivery of goods and services, the increase in business cost is gonna be HUGE! And for sure these increases will be passed onto the consumer like you and I. Sigh... things just doesn't get any easier, do they?

I am not sure of what you are saying.. In india we have to pay separate road tax for one time... I think i had paid around Rs 3000.. If road taxes are factored into fuel prices.. then first of all fuel prices will be higher... and road tax will be variable... I think we will have to may more as road tax... It will be beneficial to the government and not to consumer...

Your road taxation system looks really similar to the one where I live. I do agree if the taxes are factored into fuel prices, it would increase the price of fuel. Please refer to my posting below for the detailed explanation of why I think factoring the road tax into the fuel is a good model.
