What experiences have you had in chatrooms?  |

 A while ago I joined the yahoo chatrooms, and frequently visited their '30 somethin and 'looking for love' rooms. I was not actually looking for love but looking for someone genuine to chat to a on personal level as I was a bit lonely after the break of my marriage of 2 or so years previous. I would get involved in a conversation with someone and would not long after be asked if I had messenger and a camera. This happened so often I eventually gave up and now have many friends around me that I no longer need to rely on a chat room for mental stimulation. I was once told that it is certainly not just the men that do this and that women are sometimes worse. I have no problem with people looking for a bit of 'fun' but why don't they go into other rooms specifically created for this reason? Why do they have to lead someone on to think that they are genuine when really they are only after one thing.
Have you had any bad experiences in chatrooms? Have you ever had a good experience in chatrooms? Have you found love in chatrooms and are now living happily ever after?

It sounds like it makes a difference as to who's chatrooms you use, maybe some are prone to having some dodgy characters lurking! I think if you go into chatrooms that have specific subjects like Big Brother or football then you don't run the risk of running into the type of people you don't want to!

Sorry to hear you didn't have a very good experience in the chatrooms simular to myself and that is why I not bother either. As soon as they asked if I had messenger and a camera I would politely say that I wasn't into that and stop the conversation.

Like I said, I was looking for love or to date someone, I wouldn't want to travel half way around the world to meet someone anyway. I just wanted to chat but that wasn't what was on their mind. Mylot is much better, you can sort of chat and I have made some friends too.

I think there are probably some very good sites that have chatrooms where you can get some really good advice and chat about your favourite pastimes. I think the idea is to not take these things too seriously eh?

5.  LadyStrawberry (138) | 3 months ago |  I went to yahoo & msn chatrooms quite a few year ago... & they were generally quite nice.. but it depended which room you were in, & what time of day.. Sunday afternoon seemed okay..:)
On some other sites, yeah.. some men were just terrible lol
I guess some may mistake 'love' with something else..:)
Glad to hear you got RL friends now & I agree mylot is fun & 'chattier' than many of the so-called chat-rooms!!:)

As you know I am a single mum and it is hard for me to meet men as I don't go out, well hardly ever, mainly due to finances. I am happy to say that I don't feel like I need a man in my life right now as I am very busy with my boys and life couldn't be better (apart from the fights between my kids!! LOL). Like I said I now have many friends and now I have got mylot!!

| 7. wolfie34 (11359) | 3 weeks ago |  I hate chat rooms with a passion my friend, whenever I go onto a site and it has a chat room I turn it off straight away, I have had some very nasty experiences in chat rooms and I have been verbally attacked and now I avoid them like the plague, one evening I was playing a card game and all they did was swear, argue and bully each other, who wants that? Chatrooms are open to abuse, bullying and nastiness, I don't want to be part of that thank you very much. Besides I hate banal chatter and some of the crap they come out with anyhow, I am no prude and love flirting but sometimes what goes on in some of those rooms is downright appalling and sickening

Well I would definately tell someone! If you arrange to go on a date with him then make sure you tell someone where you are going and what time you will be back. Make sure you have your mobile with you at all times and keep to the plan of the evening. I am sure that after 3 years he will be ok because weirdos don't tend to hang around for that long but you can never be sure!
