Best anti virus

My computer gets infected every now and then.Can you please tell which is the best anti-virus I can use,so that I can be carefree through out the life time.

AVG has a free program that many of my friends use which is pretty good according to them. You can download it at avg.com. Personally, I run Norton, which is not free, but it does a good job too.
