CNet finally got around to writing a terrific article about how Wii is lagging behind in online play even though they have a broadband connecter built into their system (and it works very well). Console gamers recently discovered what their PC counterparts have known for years: the real fun in gaming is online. While the last-generation consoles teased gamers with limited online play, today's systems are fully connected. The PS3, the Xbox 360, and the Wii have sizable online infrastructures/hubs, where users can connect and compete.... Do you think it is important to have online play with the Wii or are you happy with just playing by yourself or with friends that are physically there with you? If you haven't purchased a Wii yet, would it be something of a selling point to you to have online play? Thanks Zelo

A couple of games are online, but I do think Nintendo messed up the online features of the Wii. Looking over at the Xbox with its gamer tags, achievements and online messaging system you can see Online done well, Nintendo seam to have just bolted it on as an afterthought, then spent too long . Hopefully a later system update and later games with really make use of it. This reminds me, I should buy Mario Kart soon - that will have basic online functions.

I guess we are not true "gamers" because we are content without playing Wii games online. LOL My 11 year old would probably be the one who would like to play with others online.

I doubt I will be getting a Wii anytime soon, but my mom is saving up for one for my little sister since she thinks that it is great that they are interactive and maybe help her get some exercise in by moving around so much. I doubt though she will be going online with it because she is only 7. I think it would be fun to do so though. Keeps it from being the same ol' same ol' and it would be much funner.
