When I was in my vacation, I used to take my kids to the swimming pool to have fun, I have noticed that some people give their kids some kind of food like biscuits while they are playing and swimming in the pool, I see that is very dangerous because:
1-The kids when they swimming always the take their breath from their mouth and when their mouth are full in foods they will throttle by this pieces of food.
2-When they have this fun in swimming they use all their muscles especially the stomach muscle, and that will hurt them when they have to eat food while their stomach muscle are in hard work.
3-The pieces of the food that they eat will fall down in the swimming pool and that will made some kinds of bacteria and that will effect on their skin.
I hope that all people realized the danger of this, they can give them any kind of food when the kids are out the pool to take some rest.
I like to know what is your opinion about that.

I totally agree with you. I would never give a child food while in the pool. The only time I did anything even remotely close to eating in the pool was at a neighbour's place when I was floating in a pool chair, and I had a cocktail in the specially made drink-holder of the pool chair. We were all adults there, and we knew what we were doing. No harm done. I wasn't actually swimming, I was floating in the pool chair, and I only had ONE drink!

That is not harm my dear, the only dangerous is when the kids are swimming, and when I saw this thing I told the parents it is dangerous to that, they told me it is not of your business, anyway their not my kids but I feel it is my job to tell them this.
Thank you for your response and have a nice day.

I can't agree with you more. Food should not be a pacifier to deal with kids. I'll never allow my kid to eat while swimming in a pool. Nor will i let them eat in front of a tv show. It's not good for their digesting.

for me, I make a distinction. Although eating in front of a TV might not be polite and a little rustic, it is not physically dangerous, whereby eating in the pool or while swimming, certainly is

You make some very good points there. When I was a child my parents always told us not to go in the water for at least one hour after eating because it could cause muscle cramps. I don't think that was really accurate, just an old wives' tale, but you have some very valid concerns. So maybe our moms were sort of on the right track.

hi alkurishy yes I think that is really a smart idea.I know you should not send kids out to swim right after they have eaten
and eating in the pool could cause a lotof trouble. they could conceivably choke and anyway food that gets dropped in the
water pollutes the water too. I never have let my kids take food into the swimming pool at all. They had to wait until they were
safely out of the water.lol.

Those are ALL very good reasons. The kids will also run the risk of developing stomach cramps because the stomach is trying to digest the food, but the child is using the muscles for other things.

Another good point, especially from someone who did two years of pre-med in University.

Yeah, that's true, giving kids food at the pool is often a bad idea. However, I think a few biscuits at the pool won't really affect them that much. The throttling problem can be solved by having them eat at the pool but not swim as soon as you've gulped something down. My only annoyance would be if they fed their kids too much, because then the kid might throw up (had a couple of vomit incidents in the pool I go to) and ruin the pool for everyone.

That is another point you have say here, the safe way is that when they have to take some rest from the swimming they can eat anything they like but not too much as you say.
Thank you for your response and have a good day.

this year on holiday in Bulgaria we saw people feeding kids in the pool and always felt this was wrong. It is recognised by many medics that swimming on food leads to stomach cramps. This can be fatal, particularly in young children. Both our kids had ice cream at the side of thye pool in between swimming sessions

I don't see why you would want to eat while in the swimming pool anyhow. Fair enough getting out the pool and having a biscuit and then going back in as one biscuit is not going to make the child sick or anything. I do disagree with people feeding their children entire meals and sending them straight back into the pool, my parents always told me to wait at least an hour. Your point three is not really sensible as the amount of chlorine in pools is enough to kill bacteria, that is why it is there so that people weeing in the pools and stuff does not cause harm.

Actually i have never seen that. Beside the pool that i usually go, there are plastic chairs and tables beneath the big umbrella, parents buy food and beverage, then ask their kid come out and have them.
Perhaps it depends on the layout of the swimming pool.
