With every one trying to save every penny they have these days just to buy gas what do you do when there is a birthday, anniversary, wedding, etc. coming up?? Do you skip the store bought card and make one? Do you buy from clearance even if you know its not exactly what they wanted? Do you buy things months before a birthday or wedding, because you found it on sale? What about for Christmas? Do you buy early or wait? Or do you skip a gift all together? What are your thoughts on present buying when money is tight???

If I see something on special which I know will be a good gift for someone in particular, I will buy it. Also, if I see things on special suitable for kids around my daughters age I will buy them (she gets invited to a LOT of birthday parties, and they ALL involve a gift!). I keep everything I buy in a big storage box, and have a check in it whenever a gift is due. Mostly though, I buy a gift close to the time it is due to be given. I like to give presents which are needed and appreciated, so buying things early doesn't always work. If I can find what I want on special, or new on eBay, I'll buy it cheaper. Otherwise, I will pay full price for the "right" gift.

I forgot to mention cards. Sometimes my daughter makes them, otherwise I use budget ones and pretty them up myself if necessary.

I am a clearance FREAK! My husband says if I didn't clearance shop we would be rich! LOL Okay maybe not rich but we would have more money. I do some times buy things just beacause its a great deal not necessarly because I need it.

I often make cards, partly because i enjoy making them, because it often means more to the recipient that someone has given the gift of time and because they can be personalised to suit the recipient.(OK yes, there's also the cost factor I buy things all year round for Christmas - when I spot them at good prices ...infact, I started wrapping stuff last week - just small bits and pieces. Some are predictable things like, I KNOW my mum always appreciates slippers, bubble bath and writing paper for Christmas and some are just quirky items that I spot and think are amusing or have some relevance to a particular person.
