Temp Agent needing to kill time.....HELP!

Hey everybody, I'm asking for help. If you work in an office, then you know what I'm about to talk about - blocking websites! I can't go to any websites, except wikipedia (surprisingly I'm running out of articles to read) and if I'm lucky, my email. I need help from all of you. Can anyone suggest any blogs that don't have any game related/entertainment tagged stuff within their writings, or even suggest a website that you would think that could bypass the blocking mechs of the computer system. I'm just a temp, mostly getting reception work. Help be Obi-Wan, etc

Hi Candymarie, I block websites for companies and would assume that there would be some sort of administrative discipline if you were to get any info on "bypassing" the security. I have a form that people fill out it is a website request form, if the website is approved for access, then I allow it and "remove" the block. Maybe this office you are working in has a program in place such as this. It sounds very strict that you can only access one site, they've obviously done this for a reason... How did you get on the Mylot site?

Thanks for the info, but because of my temp status, which is the majority of the time, as a receptionist, they only expect to answer the phones for them and forward messages, as well as forward mail. And I didn't mean to 'bypass' and blocks, I guess I didn't put it correctly, I meant a website that would be interesting to go to, like for reading, that wouldn't have any "tags" (like in the mylot discussions) that would indicate it as a game, etc and such. As for me being able to go onto this site, I have no clue haha. It's fairly new isn't it?

You could try bored.com. I dont know know how that would fare in your blocking system but it is worth a try. It has interesting and unsual things to do on there and should keep you entertained. Hopefully you wont have people checking your computer use though if they found out you went there while you were working it coudl cause a problem.

Thanks for the suggestion! Tried it, and it's classified as games, oh well.

While I don't exactly agree with bypasses, you could try a different browser on your computer directly (but depending on the sophistication of the IT department/system you might not want to do this). If the technology setup is a bit loose in terms of monitoring, you could try the different browser and have it not go through proxy servers on their end. Again, consider this with caution... Another thing you can try is using a browser on a USB stick. http://www.getusb.info/run-mobile-firefox-from-a-flash-drive/ You can also try an anonymous proxy server like spysurfing (or others out there, but be careful of fraud, drive-by downloads and so forth).

Thanks! I've used Mozilla, and still do...but why do people keep thinking I'm trying to get on sites I'm not allowed to? I'm just asking for interesting sites to check out, like wikipedia or such.
