We have been having a lot of power outages over the last year. More than double what we had the entire year before. It seems that the outages occur at night when it is dark. We keep flashlights on every nightstand in the house. We keep candles in every room as well as a candle lighter.
What do you keep on hand to give you light in case of a power outage?

Candles, warm clothes, a land line phone (not a cordless hat elies on electriciy,) and a wind up Victrola! :)
I remember during the blackout of 03, how nice it was to be able to have music playing in the dark. I hae my Victrola and over 300 78 RPM recods to enjoy. I also have an endless stash of needles for the Victrola.

Yours is the most unique response I have seen to this question. I think my brother has mom's old Victrola, but we do not have all the supplies and records you do.

We have been having a lot of power outages as well. I went out and bought one of those battery operated lanterns. They work so great! I am actually thinking about getting a couple more of them. We also have flash lights and candles.

We don't lose the power very often where we live now but we used to lose the power all the time before we bought the place we are in now . It seemed we had a power outage more often then we actually had power and this was because we were in an area where there was maybe only ten of us on the same line so when the power was out we were the last line they would get to , to fix .
I have a cubboard in my porch filled with candles for when the power goes out because a couple of my children are very nervous of the dark so when the power goes out we try to light the house as much as possible . As often as I buy batteries though , it never seems we have any left when the power is out so we are stuck with candles lol .
We are thinking of getting a generator just because when the power goes out in the winter we have nothing to heat the place . We have a pellet stove for heat so it doesn't take long to get cold when the power goes out and then I have to dress everyone in snow suits to keep us all warm . It works but is uncomfortable to walk around the house dressed in snow suits lol .

I keep Candles in the House,I use Rechargeable batteries and keep a bunch of them ready charged for radio, mini TV,and flashlights,I have one of the dynamo flashlights that will also charge a cellphone and has a FM radio built in,My kitchen stove is Gas,and I have an open fireplace in the living room..I'm ready for Power cuts! The only thing I'd miss in a blackout would be my internet connection!

We have had power outages also and we're prepared with two big flashlights a battery powered lantern and a kerosine lantern. We're never in the dark here for very long. Interesting question, so refreshing to see a new question I have never seen before. Take care my friend.

I have lots of candles, flashlights, and batteries. I sure don't want to be totally in the dark.

We had some trouble last winter, but not much. It was enough, however, to cause me to buy a hand crank flashlight to go by the bed, for me. Hubby does not think he needs one. I have fire lighters, candles and some home made oil lamps, as well as some more traditional lamps.

I keep candles available, flashlights and also lighters. I get nervous about the lights going out late at night myself. So far it has only been during the day which I am not crazy about but I can deal with.

We keep tons of candles and flashlights. I think its good to have alot of these things. If you have prolonged use they may not last...extra's is the key on this one....hubby, please remember the batteries lol

There are many items that are important during power outages, especially items that are considered to be life saving. The following is a list that I have personally created for my home:
1. Plenty of food
2. Plenty of water
3. Flashlights/lanterns with radio attached (weather bands and short wave are important)
4. Radios that crank (developed for the threatening Y2K)
5. FIRST AID KIT with plenty of band aids, gauze, burn ointment, aspirin
6. CPR kit
7. Generator (especially for those who are using oxygen tanks that are electric)
8. Weapon for defense (especially if you live in the inner city)
9. Cell phone with extra battery
10. Extra batteries
11. Emergency phone list
These are just a few items that I know that are important. Your list can be different for your actual needs.
