Do you mark best response when you "hear what you want to hear"?

Do you mark best response when you hear what you want to hear; or when a person gives you important information, or a good-size response? The reason I ask this is I have noticed that many people on forums mark best response when they are made happy. If you tell them the truth-they don't like it. (When the truth is a negative). What do you do?

I always find marking best responses very difficult as there are usually two or three that deserve it. Sometimes I will go with the person that made me laugh the most if not too serious discussion but on the whole I will reread through all posts and go with my gut feeling as to which one to mark. It is not always the most in terms of wording but the one that is the most apt to the discussion question. I always plus rate even when someone has disagreed completey as they have taken the time to respond. I have in the past given a best repsonse for a view that was against what my own thoughts were as I found it refreshing as the others were all in agreement. Ellie :D

Hi MH
That's a great question!! I've been wondering the same thing. How do people mark best response? I have noticed some often mark the same person. What is the criteria? Or is there a criteria? I hope someone can answer that. Good question!!!

Thank-you.
I think it's really up to each individual person. That's really a neat part of this site. I went for a while not marking best response because I didn't know how to choose just one person. Then I realized how much it means for a person to get marked as best response; and made sure to mark each discussion even if it only had one response. I still do that now. I will not however mark just because I want to play favorites. It does seem though, that there are a few people that respond to my posts with the best answers every time. They are well thought out and often funny; which I always appreciate a lot.

hi mh!
i usually give the best response mark to the response that makes me happy but not necessarily that it is what i want to hear or it is totally the same opinion as me. i have given best responses to myLotters who gave me a different points of view because i thought they make a very good point, or something that i didn't think of or slipped my mind.

Very rarely do I mark the best response because I don't like to. It's almost saying that one is better at their response over all the others and I don't like doing that because I love all the responses I get. I very rarely rate a negative either because I feel everybody is entitled to their opinion as long as it's given constructively.

Hmmm, I guess I don't really get negative responses, maybe I should throw mud at somebody everybody likes. I usually mark a best response when somebody makes me laugh or gives a great point I didn't think of. I've never given a best response to somebody who was negative, that like rewarding punishment. It don't make sense.

I wait about a week or two and reread the responses. Then I make a decision. I think logic is the deciding factor in alot of my best responses. Sometimes I really don't know the answer and when I read a response that is very helpful, it's marked best response. I also try not to "play favorites" and give best responses to the same person over and over again. Doesn't seem real fair.

Actually I go with the one who seems to be the most knowledgable and gets the information I want. If it is a case of moral values, I tend to go with the one who is more honest and who upholds a greater moral value than I do. I never go with the one who holds a lesser moral value than I do. So I would like to hear someone says it is all right for someone who hurt you to suffer but I would not mark that one as best response because it would not right. On the other hand if someone says it is all right to kill a baby who might grow up to be a dictator, I would say not give that person a best response, because it is not right to kill an innocent.

I give the best responses to person that give me the answer that I am looking for. If this answer is negative or positive I still give it to them. Best Responses is not for any favourism but what you are looking for. I have seen persons give their friends it over and over but hey MYLOT now is all about friends and not about going to discussions within the interest that you like. I would encourage you just to be yourself and do the things that you know will make you happy at the end of the day.
