As some of you know, I'm a wildland firefighter, and injured my wrist back in April on a fire we were working. Well, I went for an MRA (mri with dye shot in) July 22nd and it was unsuccessful. However, I went back yesterday and they were able to get it done, more painful than the first attempt but it got done! And then had appt with the orthopedic doctor. I am happy to report that at this time it does not look like I will have to go through surgery! :) He has however ordered therapy with a wrist specialist, and as he put it 'Aggressive therapy', hmmm don't know bout you but doesn't sound like fun! lol He also told me to be patient this was not going to improve in a week or month, that it would take two to three months to even start seeing improvement. So, as of now, I go back to see him November 4th, which means I'll continue to be on medical leave, and more than likely will not be returning to work before we go on leave (I work seasonal March to mid-November). But the good news is, I'll be returning to work next Spring for another season of firefighting!

That is good that you don't have to have surgery but after the agressive wrist therapy you might need it. hahahaha
At least now you know you probably won't be going back to work this season so you can plan on doing other things. What did your boss say after you told him about the extended time off from work? Hopefully the therapy will do the trick. Oh yes, what is the difference in the wrist specialist and the other therapist you went to? I am thinking the other was a therapist of many body parts.

Well, my chief does know that I probably wouldn't be back this season, but that I'll be healed and back next Spring. The therapist I was going to was an Occupational therapist, hands, wrists, shoulders, flexibility. The one he is sending me too does nothing but wrists. So now I'll be going down to Heather's at the end of October, it was planned for me to do that, just wasn't sure if I'd be back at work and only be able to take off a couple of days or if I'd be able to go down for like a week.

I'm not sure how often I'll be going to therapy yet, but if it's more than once or twice a week, I'm going to see if they have someone closer that is equally qualified. Since that will be a 64 mile round trip each time. I'm hoping to make a trip down to Texas, if not around Christmas than next year before going back to work. Lindsey to keep me posted on Brook's lastest and adds pics to her myspace for me to see.

I am glad to hear that you will not require any surgery for your wrist. Did you ask the doctor about the dye before he put it in like I asked before? Remember people are having complications with that. I am sorry that you won't be able to return to work this year, but better to have all this time off this year, than to be permanently off work because you pushed your wrist too far before having something done about it!

Thank you. Yes I did ask and the dye he uses has not had any reported problems. I did have some swelling but due only to the fact of the amount of dye being injected into a small space, kinda like fluid retention, but he said that would be gone within 24 hours. I have learned (from past experience) not to push beyond limits with any type of injury. It's better to have it completely healed and then go on with whatever activity then to push too far and not be able to ever do it.

Thank you. I just have to be patient while it's getting better, which sometimes I'm not real good at lol. But, I will be back, it is good timing, except for only getting to work a month out of this season :( but it is one of the hazards of the job. Eventhough we put safety first, there is always that chance of something happening.
