Would you like to go to South Africa?

South Africa looks so beautiful and it is on my list of places to go. However, my friends father grew up there and warns us all the time not to go. Especially as tourists. He says its very dangerous there. His long time friend that still lives there had someone walk up to her car, put a gun to her head and demanded her jewelery and money. I know that could happen here as well or anywhere in the world for that matter but this is a daily thing. He says its horribly dangerous there to the point where he doesn't even want to go back to visit him family there. This makes me scared and I've put this trip on the bottom of my list. Maybe one day it will become safer and I can go but for now, I'm staying well away from there!

i am a local here in sa, and you have to visit before the cape gets infected with lawlessness. i love the western cape. cape town is nice, but take the scenic route to the garden rout. mossel bay, george, herolds bay, wilderness and then through the forests to natures valley. sometime during the year, the whales come and have their babies there. you can see them from almost anywhere you stand. let me know if you want to go. i can give you some pointers. and the cheapest high quality places.

Would love to . Unfortunately, South Africa has been off limits financially whenever I've gone on vacation in the past, and I think that situation will continue into the future, Visited Morocco in the sixties, but would love to see more.

I actually have a couple of friends that live in South Africa and they have talked my mom into letting us visit them in the end of May. I'm really excited about it and I want to see all the things you mentioned. I also was looking at possibly going to see Victoria Falls since it's so close. I don't know if that would be possible to do, however.
